Reese Witherspoon stuns fans as she reveals her real name

After being called out by Nicole Kidman in a new interview, Reese Witherspoon stunned by revealing her real birth name.

Reese Witherspoon has revealed that people have actually been calling her the wrong name all of her life, and that her stage name is only partially correct.

The star, 48, joined friend and former Big Little Lies co-star Nicole Kidman for a conversation with Vanity Fair.

After Witherspoon kept referring to their fellow co-star, Laura Dern, by her last name, Aussie legend Kidman interjected and questioned why.

“I hate how you call her Dern though!” she said.

“Why?” asked Witherspoon, before Kidman replied: “Because it sounds weird!”

Witherspoon then made a revelation that’s left fans completely baffled; she revealed her real name.

“You know why? Because my name is Laura, and her name is Laura, and it’s confusing to me,” replied Witherspoon; whose given name is Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon.

“Oh! That’s right,” Kidman replied.

“So I get confused and just call her Dern,” the Legally Blonde star added. “We can’t both be Laura.”

“She doesn’t call you Laura, though?” a puzzled Kidman asked.

“I don’t understand your point. I don’t like your tone. You’re trying to understand something, so it just makes no sense,” Witherspoon joked to her colleague, who is also a close friend.

Fans rushed to social media to share their shock, with one tweeting: “Reese Witherspoon real name is Laura Jeanne and I feel LIED to.”

A second joked: “Finding out Reese Witherspoon’s real name is Laura Jeanne makes sense. She’s very Laura Jeanne coded.”

“Today I learned Reese Witherspoon is Laura Jean. What is LIFE,” said another stunned fan, while a fourth replied: “Wait Laura Dern has been Laura’ing longer, but she’s the one who had to give up her name?”

Meanwhile, the pair also went on to chat about the forthcoming third season of Big Little Lies.

“I get the ring ring: ‘Hey, is [season 3] happening?’ Like, Nic,” Witherspoon said to Kidman. “You got excited.”

“I got excited,” Kidman agreed.

“It’s OK, baby. I get excited too. Then I’ve got Laura [Dern] calling me and Zoe [Kravitz] and Shailene [Woodley]. They’re all like, ‘Nic said that we’re making Big Little Lies season three?’” Witherspoon added of the rest of their co-stars also wondering what was going on.

Then Kidman indicated that season three is happening.

“But we are now! We’re moving fast and furious, and Liane [Moriarty] is delivering the book,” she said. “Yeah, and we’re in good shape.”
