Rebel Wilson was granted an exemption to skip quarantine to appear at tonight’s AACTA Awards.

The actress — who stunned on the red carpet in a black mini dress in Sydney this afternoon — successfully applied for approval from the NSW Government to forgo the mandatory 72-hour quarantine after arriving in Sydney from LA on Monday, her management told The Daily Mail.

Wilson joins stars including Russell Crowe, Eric Bana, Sarah Snook and Taika Waititi attending the Sydney Opera House for the 10th annual event tonight, which is presented by The Foxtel Group.

Wilson’s management confirmed reports she was able to attend without completing the full quarantine, telling The Daily Mail after the publication released photos of the star exercising in a park just hours after touching down, “Rebel received government permission from NSW Minister for Health and Medical Research Brad Hazzard.”

The manager explained that Wilson, who owns several properties in NSW including a waterfront home in Birchgrove, had undergone “multiple PCR [nose and throat swab] tests” since her arrival.

Currently, all fully vaccinated travellers must isolate at home or in accommodation for 72 hours upon arrival. The order comes amid a growing cluster of Covid-19 cases in NSW that have been linked to the Omicron variant.

NSW Health said exemptions may be granted under strict Covid guidelines.

Wilson has been slammed for weighing in on Sydney’s lockdown orders this year, causing uproar on social media in June after she criticised then-NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s announcement of a two-week snap lockdown to contain the spread of the Delta variant across the city.

“Sydney WTF!!! You can’t keep locking down as a strategy,” Wilson wrote in one clip on Instagram, before sharing a photo of the toilet paper supermarket shortage. “Mum took this at Woolworths,” she wrote.

The 41-year-old Australian actress has lost more than 30kg over the past two years, but today, snippets from a new interview with BBC Breakfast saw her claim that she received “a lot of pushback” from her own management team about changing her appearance.

“I got a lot of pushback from my own team, actually, here in Hollywood, when I said, ‘OK, I’m going to do this Year of Health. I feel like I’m really going to physically transform and change my life,’” Wilson said. “And they were like, ‘Why? Why would you want to do that?’ Because I was earning millions of dollars being the funny fat girl and being that person.”

The Pitch Perfect star also provided an update about her fertility journey.

“I’m still trying on the fertility journey, even though it is emotional and you get hopeful and then your hopes are dashed. So I feel for any woman going through it,” Wilson said.

“I was the classic example of a career woman who went out into the world, didn’t even think about kids, and then suddenly in your mid-30s is like, ‘Oh, hang on, do I want that as an option? And then if I do, what do I need to do?’”

The star has explored freezing her eggs but also understands that carrying her own biological child might not happen exactly as planned.
