Celine Dion has made a heartfelt statement after making a comeback at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The legendary singer closed the ceremony on Friday immediately after the lighting of the Olympic cauldron, with a performance from the first stage of the Eiffel Tower, singing a timeless classic: Edith Piaf’s L’Hymne à L’Amour.

The live performance marked Dion’s first concert performance since revealing that she is living with stiff person syndrome, a rare, progressive syndrome that affects the nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord.

Following her incredible performance, Dion took to Twitter to share her happiness at performing again for the first time in years.

“I’m honoured to have performed tonight, for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, and so full of joy to be back in one of my very favourite cities!” she wrote.

“Most of all, I’m so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance.”

Dion continued: “All of you have been so focused on your dream, and whether or not you take home a medal, I hope that being here means that it has come true for you! You should all be so proud, we know how hard you have worked to be the best of the best. Stay focused, keep going, my heart is with you! – Celine xx …”

The last time the singer performed live was in March 2020 in New Jersey. Since then she has been out of the spotlight while attempting to recover and get her life back.

The star was reportedly paid $US2 million to perform ($3 million) at the opening ceremony.

Meanwhile, in her recent documentary, I Am: Celine Dion, the singer gave greater insight into her secret health battle, including showing footage of her having a seizure for several minutes.

After the incident, sports medicine therapist Terrill Lobo — who was treating her — warned that she likely suffered a seizure because her brain “was overstimulated” by her going into the recording studio.

“Well, what am I gonna do?” the singer then asked.

“If I can’t get stimulated by what I love, and then I’m gonna go onstage and, like, you’re gonna put the pulse oximeter on me and you’re gonna turn me on my back?”

In recent months, she has made strides to get back into the limelight.

She made a surprise appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards in February to present the award for album of the year to Taylor Swift.

Then, in March, the mother of three attended a Bruins game, where she was seen playing air guitar.
