Oscar-nominated actor reveals he’s working at Starbucks

He may have been recognised by the Academy at the upcoming Oscars, but James Martin has revealed why he’s held onto his day job at the chain coffee shop.

An Oscar-nominated star has revealed his reasons for returning to his day job at Starbucks.

Irish actor James Martin, 30, starred in 2021’s lauded short An Irish Goodbye, but in a bid to not let the fame go to his head, he’s returning to his long-term coffee shop job.

Speaking toThe Sun as he walked the red carpet at the BAFTAs, James revealed his reasons for quietly heading back to his job of a decade despite earning critical acclaim.

“I love work and I work a lot and have done or so long,” he said.

“It’s such a friendly atmosphere there and for me I think it’s nice to have your private life.

“I get recognised while I’m in there all the time.”

The up-and-coming star, who has Down’s syndrome, was widely praised for his role as one of the brothers who were brought together by their mother’s death in An Irish Goodbye. The film is nominated at the upcoming Oscars in the Best Short Film category.

Earlier this month, James accompanied his co-stars at the BAFTAs in London, where they took home the award for best British short.

As well as Starbucks, he also worked at an Italian restaurant in Belfast named Scalini’s.

The film star’s first acting gig was in BBC show Ups And Downs.

He has a long-term girlfriend named Louise Davies, who he plans to take along as his date to the Oscars in March.
