Cara Delevingne is defending her decision to pose topless to show off her new arm tattoo.

The British model and actress – she currently stars on the new season of American Horror Story: Delicate on BINGE – has spoken out after she was criticised for appearing near nude in a carousel of photos shared by tattoo artist Matteo Nangeroni on Instagram.

“Why is she topless if it’s an arm tattoo‍️,” one user commented, while another wrote, “It’s a cool tattoo but I don’t think she has to be shirtless.”

“You really needed to put here [sic] naked for an arm tattoo?” yet another commented. “That’s why most female clients will not go to a male tattoo artist.”

However, the star says it’s her prerogative to choose to show off her new body art in braless photos.

“Just to be clear to everyone! I chose to take my bra off, the picture didn’t look good with my bra on,” she wrote in the comments section of the post.

“I am a perfectionist especially when it comes to photography and I was trying to help make something beautiful. Everyone calm down please. Thank you x.”

The 31-year-old’s tattoo is a dictionary definition of the Italian word “dormiveglia”, which means “the place that stretches between sleeping and walking”, according to Nangeroni’s post.

On top of the topless backlash, Delevingne was also called out for the apparent incorrect definition of the word – users claim it is meant to say read “waking” rather than “walking”.

Delevingne didn’t address the alleged spelling error in her comment, but the entire comments section on the post has since been disabled.

The star hasn’t had a good run on social media of late. Earlier this month, she was not happy with X, formerly known as Twitter, after the social media platform took “so long” to get her account back from hackers.

Delevingne’s page was reportedly hacked by scammers who used the page to sell Apple products with proceeds apparently going to charity.

“If you ever see anything about Mac books or trying to sell anything from this Twitter, it is NOT REAL!!! Sorry guys! I sincerely apologise,” she began in her statement.

“I am so angry at twitter or whatever the f**k it’s called now for taking so long to get my account back!! So many people got scammed and I am furious. I am going to delete my account so this never happens again. Still on Instagram, threads and tik tok. Again, I am so sorry for this.”
