Matt Rife has been accused of ‘fighting’ with a six-year-old online
A controversial star is being roasted online for an argument he had with an unlikely target.
Comedian Matt Rife is ironically being slammed for being unable to take a joke after allegedly getting into a feud with a six-year-old.
Rife, 28, has found himself at the bottom of an internet pile-on after his new Netflix special Natural Selection kicked off with a domestic violence joke, and the situation has unravelled so much that now he is now being accused of having internet fights with children.
The controversy began when Rife told a story in the Netflix special about being served by a waitress in Baltimore with a black eye. He revealed his friend “felt bad” for her and questioned why the restaurant didn’t “put her in the kitchen or something where nobody has to see her face”.
As his punchline, the comedian suggested that if she could cook then she “wouldn’t have that black eye”.
He then claimed he was testing the waters with a domestic violence joke to see if the audience would be “fun”.
That snippet quickly went viral and Rife has copped major backlash as a result. In Australia, 49 women have been murdered this year alone as a direct result of the same violence he is making light of.
Rife didn’t back down from the joke and instead released a joke apology on Instagram and went on Jordan Peterson’s podcast where Peterson complimented him for not apologising and the comedian lapped up the praise.
Rife argued he shouldn’t have to say sorry because it is just “comedy” and he was merely sharing what was “funny” to him.
The comedian’s “laugh it off” response might hold more weight if he wasn’t then allegedly picking fights with a child over a joke.
The latest drama started when influencer Barbie Hedaya, who has over two million followers on TikTok, shared a video of her six-year-old son Aiden, who is also very into science, fact-checking one of Rife’s other jokes.
Besides making fun of domestic violence, Rife also does a bit about how all women are into crystals and star signs.
“Just because Jupiter has a ring and you don’t …” he joked.
The swipe was meant to be poking fun at the fact all women want to get married, which isn’t true, but many Rife’s jokes about women aren’t based on what women are actually like but rather sexist stereotypes.
Barbie then posted a video of her son that explained that Saturn has rings, not Jupiter, and added that he thought Rife was “mean” to girls.
Rife wasn’t tagged in the video, but he discovered it on Instagram and allegedly decided to call out a child in now deleted comments.
“Jupiter also has a ring oh! And Santa Claus isn’t real. Your mum buys you presents with the money she makes on OnlyFans. Good luck,” he allegedly wrote.
This prompted Barbie to create a follow up video, in which she accused Rife of taking a “lighthearted video and turning it into fighting with a six-year-old”.
She added that she does not have an OnlyFans account and that is not how she has made her fortune.
“For you to assume that every single woman online makes money by showing their bodies — which, like, if that’s what you do, girl, then do you, love it — I have never made a single dollar from a man,” she said.
“You can’t accept the fact that people may like women for their personalities. We know you don’t have one.
“I really wish you luck on what’s left of your career. Keep my child’s name out of your mouth.”
People online were shocked by Rife’s alleged comment.
“Matt Rife beefing with a six-year-old is the funniest and dumbest way to end this unserious year,” one wrote.
“There is no reason to go after a child,” one argued.
Another claimed it was one of the most “disgusting” things they’d ever seen, one branded it “wild”, while someone else commented that him arguing with a child made him “trash”.
Despite Rife always wanting people to be able to take a joke, he seems to struggle to take one about himself.
Recently, he also ended up in a feud with plastic surgeon Dr Benjamin Caughlin, who is constantly posting TikTok content.
Rife is often discussed because he had a bit of a celebrity transformation; he went from looking like a regular guy to having the perfect jawline.
It’s something he puts down to puberty and has also complained makes it harder as a comedian to be hot.
Yet plenty of people online like to theorise he got plastic surgery. This is pretty much normal. If you become famous, people speculate non-stop about your looks.
Dr Caughlin posted a video that has amassed 16 million views in which he wrote, “Me after creating the greatest jawline ever seen just for my patient to get cancelled right after”.
He didn’t even say Rife’s name, but he did hashtag the word comedian, and Rife didn’t
ignore the silly content, instead, he commented.
“Lying about medical history is illegal, just FYI,” he wrote under Caughlin’s Instagram post.
Rife might want us to laugh along with his domestic violence jokes but he certainly doesn’t want us to laugh at the jokes made about him.
