Man’s outlandish act after dropping $5700 on Taylor Swift-signed guitar at charity auction

A man has been caught on video behaving in an outlandish manner after dropping almost $6000 on a Taylor Swift-signed guitar at a charity auction.

A man has bizarrely smashed a Taylor Swift-signed guitar - right after dropping a hefty sum to purchase it at a charity auction.

In a video going viral on social media, an unidentified North Texas man could be seen accepting the acoustic guitar, which was emblazoned with Swift’s Eras Tour poster, before grabbing the auctioneer’s hammer to beat the instrument several times.

It’s been reported the man spent around $US4000 ($A5774.92) to obtain the guitar at the Ellis Country Wild Game Dinner, which took place in Waxahachie, Texas on Saturday, local time.

While he was aggressively smashing the guitar, the man could be heard laughing as the crowd cheered along.

It’s understood Swift never owned the guitar in question, but a certificate of authenticity confirms she signed it.

Many have presumed the man’s stunt was a political stance after Swift famously endorsed Kamala Harris for US president in early September.

According to a spokesman for the event, the guitar was donated by a third party prior to Swift publicly backing Ms Harris on her social media accounts.

The spokesman, Craid Meier, told local media the man’s behaviour wasn’t targeted at Swift directly.

“It has been surprising to me how big of a deal people are making it out to be. It wasn’t meant to be mean or malicious,” spokesman Craig Meier told Dallas TV station WFAA.

“He was just making a lighthearted statement showing disapproval of people in the entertainment industry trying to influence politics.”

Texas has, for decades, been a safe state for the Republican Party, which has this election put forth former President Donald Trump as the presidential candidate.

As part of Swift’s lengthy post backing Ms Harris for the presidency, the pop star condemned Mr Trump for sharing an AI image that suggested she had endorsed him for president.

“It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” Swift wrote.

“It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”

Shortly afterwards, Mr Trump took to his own platform Truth Social to share a post which read, “I hate Taylor Swift!”
