Married at First Sight contestant Christopher Mark Jensen has dodged jail time over drug trafficking charges after fronting the Brisbane Supreme Court on Friday.

Jensen, 34, appeared on the 2021 season of Married At First Sight with charges dating back to 2017 still in limbo.

Queensland Supreme Court Justice Paul Freeburn said the charges would usually result in a prison sentence.

Jensen was arrested in October 2017 on the Sunshine Coast. The court heard the then 29-year-old was purchasing wholesale quantities of cannabis “and on occasion cocaine and MDMA”, and sold them in Peregian Springs over a period of four months.

Jensen used an encrypted messaging app to connect with suppliers and customers and received eight supplies of cannabis from June to October 2017. The amounts ranged from 450g to seven kilograms.

Jensen was arrested in October 2017 when police searched of his Sunshine Coast residence, finding 197g of cannabis and $5800 in cash.

“These were substantial quantities being offloaded over a short period of time,” prosecutor Michael Andronicus said.

“It is best described as an intense period of trafficking.”

Jensen has been on bail since the arrest, which allowed him to appear on the TV show.

“You were arrested on these charges four years and 10 months ago,” Justice Freeburn said.

“Just why it took these charges so long to come to the court is a mystery.

“I am told various events that occurred ... none of those explain the extraordinary delay.

“I would ordinarily impose a custodial case for this type of serious offending (but) in my view this is an exceptional case.”

Jensen pleaded guilty to four charges including two counts of supplying a dangerous drug and one count of trafficking a dangerous drug.

He was sentenced to four years in jail, immediately suspended for four years.

Jensen time on MAFS was short-lived, as he quit the show after a week after accusing ‘wife’ Jaimie of being ‘fake’.
