The 26-year-old actor had been dating her Glee co-star for more than a year before he died suddenly from an overdose of heroin and alcohol at a Vancouver hotel earlier this month.

Friends say the star had appeared to put his troubles behind him when he checked himself voluntarily into a rehab facility for a 30-day spell at the end of March.

Sources revealed this was Cory's attempt to take a step towards his future with Lea.

"Lea hated his blowouts and was worried about him," an insider told UK magazine Closer. "She's told pals they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, get married and have children, so she told him he had to make a choice - that's why he went to rehab. She always stood by him because she loved him so deeply. He had been a lot happier and more in control since his stay in rehab, but couldn't completely control his urges to party."

While actor Lea is yet to publicly speak out following Cory's death, friends say she isn't handling the tragic news very well.

She allegedly cannot stop analysing his last correspondences with her.

"Lea is inconsolable and in complete shock," the friend added. "She's trying to understand what happened and has been obsessively reading through Cory's last texts to her and listening to the voicemail he left for her on the night of his death."

Lea's representative has released a statement on her behalf.

"Lea is deeply grateful for all the love and support she's received from family, friends, and fans," the spokesperson told People magazine.

"Since Cory's passing, Lea has been grieving alongside his family and making appropriate arrangements with them. They are supporting each other as they endure this profound loss together. We continue to ask the media to respect the privacy of Lea and Cory's family."

Cory had previously sought rehab help when he was 19 and had always been open about his struggle with drink and drugs.
