Kyra Sedgwick recalls accidentally pressing the panic button at Tom Cruise’s house

An actress has recalled a star-studded dinner at Tom Cruise’s house which ended with a swarm of police cars and a very awkward explanation.

Kyra Sedgwick's awkward Tom Cruise encounter

As far as uncomfortable celebrity encounters go, actress Kyra Sedgwick’s first (and last) invitation to Tom Cruise’s house may take the cake.

Sitting down with Drew Barrymore on her talk show this week, the Call Your Mother actress recalled being invited to Cruise’s house for dinner with husband Kevin Bacon and a handful of other celebrities after filming had wrapped on A Few Good Men.

But the star-studded evening took a turn when Sedgwick pressed a mysterious button on the Mission Impossible actor’s mantle.

“So I was pregnant, I was very pregnant, and we got invited over to dinner. I had worked with Tom in Born On The Fourth of July but Kev was doing A Few Good Men,” she began.

“So we got invited over for dinner with lots of famous people like Demi Moore and Bruce Willis because she was in the movie. Rob Reiner was there. It was a flow, and Nicole (Kidman) was there.

“It was one of those nights that I often don’t get invited to.”

“There was this like fireplace mantle and I was looking around and there was this little button underneath the mantle. I was like, ‘Oh what is that little button?’ So I pressed the little button because I thought maybe something interesting will happen.

“Nothing happened and then I got a little nervous.

“So I tapped Tom on the shoulder, who was in the middle of a story, and I said, ‘I pressed this button down here.’ And he was like, ‘You pressed that button?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, I pressed that button.’ And he goes, ‘That’s the panic button.’

“And so the cops came, they had to stop the screening, they had to see Tom … I think there were more than like five cop cars.”

Sedgwick joked, “I didn’t get invited back.”

Cruise became the subject of headlines last December when he exploded on the set of Mission: Impossible 7, reportedly after seeing two crew members standing too close to one another amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In audio obtained by The Sun, the star could be heard threatening the jobs of employees should they break safety guidelines again in a profanity-laden and high-volume rant on set.

“We are creating thousands of jobs you motherfu**ers,” he yelled on set.

“I don’t ever want to see it again. Ever. And if you don’t do it, you’re fired, and I see you do it again, you’re f***ing gone.”
