Kylie Gillies pens emotional letter to her late father on his 92nd birthday
Kylie Gillies has taken to Instagram with an emotional dedication to her late father, who would have been 92 today.
The Morning Show co-host Kylie Gillies has penned an emotional letter to her late father, Ron, on what would have been his 92nd birthday.
The Channel 7 star, 55, took to Instagram to mark the occasion, sharing a series of photos of dad Ron, along with a lengthy status outlining how she and the family celebrated the day without him.
Gillies, who fought back tears when she revealed her father’s death live on air last year, shared touching details of his life in the post, remarking that he always loved birthdays.
“Today would have been your 92nd birthday,” she wrote, addressing the note to “Dad”.
“The first time in our lifetimes you’re not here for it. It breaks our hearts but you’d be proud of us.
“Mum has come to Sydney and Gus and I took her out for lunch. Just as you would have done,” she said of the day out with mum Marg and her 19-year-old son.
“Julia (GIllies’ niece) posted you to Instagram this morning. of course she did! You and her became quite the Insta stars together.”
She went on to reveal the family planned to gather for cake tonight, sharing that her dad would “chuckle” because hers was from the supermarket, while sister Stacy would have “baked you a bonanza”.
“You always did love your birthday and proudly told everyone you were a ‘1930 model’. Like the car,” she wrote, concluding: “Cheers Dad and we remember you every day. Not just today. But especially today.”
Last September, Gillies confirmed her father’s death on-air, revealing the heartbreaking detail that she wasn’t able to attend his funeral in person.
Addressing her absence from the show the week prior, she told viewers: “In the early hours of last Tuesday, we lost one of life’s true gentlemen and the kindest man I know: my dad.”
Gillies described her father as a “proud protector” to her and her sister Stacy and an “adored grandpa” to her sons, Gus and Archie, and her nieces, Anna and Julia.
“Dad – Ron or Ronnie, as he was known – loved the footy and cars and people. Gee, he loved to chat to anyone and everyone,” she said.
The media personality went on to explain that because of Queensland’s border restrictions, she watched her father’s funeral via livestream.
“If I could’ve crawled through the computer screen to get there and give my mum and sister a hug, I would have.
“As Mum said in her letter to Dad, ‘Thank you for the life you gave us’. We will love and miss you forever.”
