Kate Winslet slams stars who use Ozempic and reveals her own eating disorder battle

Kate Winslet has hit back at ‘terrible’ celebrities who use Ozempic for weight loss, and revealed her own tragic battle.

Kate Winslet has hit out at Hollywood stars who use Ozempic to lose weight and has revealed her own personal struggle with an eating disorder.

Winslet was asked about the type 2 diabetes drug, which has since skyrocketed in popularity after it became known for aiding weight loss.

“I actually don’t know what Ozempic is,” she said at first during an interview with the New York Times.

“All I know is that it’s some pill that people are taking or something like that.”

When its use was explained, she ranted: “Oh, my God. This sounds terrible. Let’s eat some more things!”

Winslet then went on to open about her own struggles with her weight, which came at the height of her fame after she starred in Titanic.

At the time, Winslet was labelled as overweight in the media, and comedian Joan Rivers once claimed that it was the star’s size at the time that “sunk the Titanic”.

Winslet revealed that the criticism became so harsh that she actually developed an eating disorder, something she never shared at the time.

“I never told anyone about it,” the actress said.

“Because guess what — people in the world around you go: ‘Hey, you look great! You lost weight!’

“So even the compliment about looking good is connected to weight. And that is one thing I will not let people talk about. If they do, I pull them up straight away.”

In 2022, Winslet confessed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that she wished she had spoken out and hit back at critics of her weight when she was younger, instead of staying silent.

“I would have said, ‘Don’t you dare treat me like this. I’m a young woman, my body is changing, I’m figuring it out, I’m deeply insecure, I’m terrified, don’t make this any harder than it already is.’”

“It can be extremely negative. People are subject to scrutiny that is more than a young, vulnerable person can cope with. But in the film industry, it is really changing,” she added. “When I was younger my agent would get calls saying, ‘How’s her weight?’ I kid you not. So it’s heartwarming that this has started to change.”
