Karl Stefanovic’s father not attending wedding, pictured mowing lawn instead

Karl Stefanovic’s estranged father has wished his son and Jasmine Yarbourgh ‘the very best’ and revealed he was invited to Mexico.

The strained relationship between Karl Stefanovic and his father appears to have thawed with 71-year-old Alex Stefanovic sending his “very best” for his son’s Mexican wedding.

Despite previously claiming to New Idea that Karl and brother Peter were estranged following his divorce from their mother Jenny, Alex has revealed he was invited to the San Jose del Cabo nuptials.

He described Karl’s second marriage to designer Jasmine Yarbrough as a “game changer for” his son.

“He’ll be very happy I’m sure … I just wish them all the very best for the rest of their lives.”

Alex had a special message for the happy couple: “Treat every day like it’s your last and love one another like there’s no tomorrow.”

Out mowing the lawn in a pair of shorts and gum boots at his Sydney home on Friday, Alex said his relationship with his TV star son was “better than ever” and that he was “so pleased” his grandchildren - Karl’s children with ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn - were attending.

Alex Stefanovic said he couldn’t attend the wedding because of a condition which prevented him making long flights.

He said Karl and Jasmine had invited him three months ago and the fact he couldn’t attend had disappointed the pair.

“Karl said … he and Jasmine were very disappointed that I wasn’t able to make it. That’s the way life is.”

The Today Show host’s parents separated when he was young after Alex Stefanovic lost two family houses from an unlucky investment.

Despite a relationship with his sons that was not as close as the Stefnavoic brothers enjoy with their mother Jenny, Alex Stefanovic did attend son Peter’s wedding.

Peter Stefanovic and fellow TV star Sylvia Jeffreys married in Kangaroo Valley in April last year.

Along with friends, celebrities and former Foreign Affairs minister Julie Bishop converging on Mexico’s Baja peninsula for the wedding, Jeffreys and Peter Stefanovic flew in with Karl’s son, River.

The wedding at the One&Only Palmilla resort is due to take place on Sunday afternoon.
