Joey King calls out Aussie ex, Jacob Elordi, over ‘unfortunate’ comment
Aussie actor Jacob Elordi has been slammed by fans over “arrogant” comments he made about one of his most popular movies.
Aussie Jacob Elordi is very much in his “I’m a serious actor” era and has dismissed The Kissing Booth movies that helped launch his career … and his famous ex isn’t impressed.
Elordi, 26, confessed that he never wanted to make the teenage romantic comedies, which were incredibly successful on Netflix.
You know, because he’s serious now.
“I didn’t want to make those movies before I made those movies. Those movies are ridiculous. They’re not universal. They’re an escape,” he told GQ.
Elordi also said he wouldn’t get caught up in making studio films to support his indie projects either; he called that mentality a “trap.”
“It can become 15 for them, none for you. You have no original ideas and you’re dead inside,” he said.
Joey King, his ex and co-star of The Kissing Booth Franchise, has spoken out about his response and called him out.
“I think it is unfortunate anyone would feel that way. I had a great time making those movies no matter what anyone says,” she told Variety.
Elordi and King dated between 2017 and 2018, when they were at the peak of making the teen movies, and neither have ever commented on the public break-up.
Both have gone on to have successful careers, with King nabbing a Golden Globe nomination for her work in The Act.
Online fans aren’t thrilled that the Aussie actor slammed his former project, which so many people loved and enjoyed.
“Both Joey and Taylor have very successful careers, but I don’t see them dissing The Kissing Booth,” one commented.
“I’m just saying if it was a female actor who acted like this they’d come for her,” another argued.
“So arrogant,” one claimed.
“His vibe is so bad it’s like ‘oh, I don’t care about the movie or this interview.’ That’s so rude,” one wrote.
Elordi is very much having a moment and the actor, who has recently starred in two critically acclaimed projects, Salt Burn and Priscilla, did walk back his comments slightly, telling Variety that he was incredibly “grateful” to everyone in The Kissing Booth movies.
