Jim Carrey ‘probably retiring’ after Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Days after going viral for weighing in on Will Smith’s Oscars slap, legendary comedic actor Jim Carrey has revealed his next move.

Jim Carrey says he is retiring from acting - "I've done enough. I am enough"

Jim Carrey is considering retiring from his decades-long acting and comedy career.

“Well, I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious,” Carrey, 60, told Access after being asked about his thoughts on Dolly Parton wanting him for a movie.

“I feel like — and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists — I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough,” he added.

When host Kit Hoover pressed whether he was actually serious, Carrey explained that it would take something extraordinary to reel him back in.

“It depends if the angels bring some sort of script that’s, you know, written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break,” he doubled down.

The Dumb & Dumber star then expressed that he has other passions to pursue aside from show business.

“I really like my quiet life, and I really love putting paint on canvas, and I really love my spiritual life,” he shared.

However, he did note that if Parton, 76, seriously approached him about a role, he would hear her out.

“I would always speak to Dolly,” he said, calling the country music superstar “another worldly talent that is just bigger than you can imagine.”

The actor’s latest movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, hits theatres on April 8 and, if he is in fact serious, could be his last.

Before the first Sonic the Hedgehog film was released in 2020, Carrey had taken a six-year break from the screen amid years of personal battles including struggles with depression and the suicide of his ex-girlfriend.

Carrey also used the opportunity to plug his upcoming NFT project, coming in April, called Magic Hour. He described it as “a mix of painting and spoken word that delves into my existential musings.”

The comedian’s retirement comments come days after he slammed Hollywood for applauding Will Smith after the King Richard star slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.

“Hollywood is just spineless en masse, and it really felt like this is a really clear indication that we aren’t the cool club anymore,” he told Gayle King in a CBS This Morning interview Tuesday.

Carrey added that he would have sued Smith, 53, for $200 million if he had been in 57-year-old Rock’s shoes.

The Mask star further expressed that things never should have gotten physical.

“If you wanna yell from the audience and disapprove … or say something on Twitter or whatever, [go ahead],” he said. “You do not have the right to walk up on stage and smack somebody in the face ’cause they said words.”

Hours after the actor’s comments went viral, shocking footage emerged of Carrey at the 1997 MTV Movie Awards. The then-35-year-old appeared to force a kiss on Alicia Silverstone, who was 19 at the time, as he accepted an award onstage.
