Jessica Simpson announces split from NFL husband after months of speculation
Former pop star turned business mogul Jessica Simpson has announced she is splitting from her husband after months of speculation.
Jessica Simpson has announced that she has split up with her husband Eric Johnson after a decade of marriage.
The singer and business mogul, 44, and the retired NFL star, 45, had been living separate lives for months, sparking rumours of a split.
Simpson confirmed the rumours in a statement to People Magazine on Monday.
The former reality star told the outlet: “Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage.
“Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them.
“We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”
Rumours of the pair’s split first began all the way back in spring, 2024.
Once an avid poster on Instagram, fans noticed in June 2024 that she failed to mark the pair’s 10-year wedding anniversary.
Fans were then convinced the couple had split after she began posing for pictures without wearing her wedding band.
Rumours hit boiling point last November, when Simpson shared a cryptic post alluding to her rocky relationship.
She wrote: “Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic.”
“This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve,” she said.
An insider told The Sun that the pair have been having problems as far back as 2020.
“It’s sadly no surprise they could be heading for divorce,” the insider said.
“Eric has often left Jessica alone at night to go out partying at bars, he didn’t ever seem to care if anyone recognised him or not.
“She is sober now, so that’s not her scene at all.”
The couple first met back in 2010 in what became a whirlwind romance that saw them engaged just a few short months later.
They welcomed daughter Maxwell in 2012, and son Ace one year later.
They then tied the knot in 2014 before completing their family with daughter Birdie in 2019.
Simpson was previously married to Nick Lachey from 2002 to 2006. Their marriage was documented in their MTV reality show, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, for three seasons.
Simpson was also in a relationship with John Mayer and was romantically linked to Tony Romo, Billy Corgan, Adam Levine and Johnny Knoxville.
