Jennifer Lawrence tells how she rises above Hollywood’s pressure to be thin
SHE’S spoken openly about the intense pressure to be skinny in Hollywood. But Jennifer Lawrence has found a way to overcome it. Be really, really famous.
SHE is known for her banging body but once called herself “obese” and a “fat actress” by Hollywood standards.
Jennifer Lawrence isn’t bowing to pressure to be rail-thin and says no other movie star should either.
“I had a conversation with somebody about the struggles with weight in the industry — I know that’s something I talk non-stop about,” Lawrence, 24, said at Comic-Con in San Diego.
“And they were saying, ‘All of the main movie stars aren’t very underweight.’
“I said, ‘yeah, because once you get to a certain place (in your career), people will hire you.
“They just want you to be in the movie, so they don’t care (about your size).”
But Lawrence admitted up-and-coming actors who were still trying to make it in Hollywood were pressured to be skinny.
She made the comments at the Comic-Con, where she is promoting the final Hunger Games movie, Mockingjay: Part 2, with her co-stars Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson.
“It’s more about the struggle for actors and actresses who have not made it to a certain place, and there’s a lot of pressure,” Lawrence said, according to time.com.
In looks-obsessed Hollywood, JLaw has always kept it real.
Wearing hardly any make-up, Lawrence told this writer in 2012 that she wasn’t chasing fame.
“I don’t see the whole Hollywood lifestyle and go, ‘I can’t wait to get a chihuahua’,’’ Lawrence said in Los Angeles just before the first Hunger Games was released.
“I don’t want to change, I’m totally happy like this.
“You’re an idiot if you get into movies and then you’re shocked that you get famous and that people are taking your pictures and that people want your autograph, like, that’s something that comes with the business.”
“I think the thing that I just get scared about is just the simple things, like in my life and my personal life, that would change because of this.”
Weeks before her Comic-Con appearance, JLaw was out and about in New York looking glamorous following her split from on-again, off-again boyfriend, Coldplay singer Chris Martin.
