Idris Elba: My life ‘falls to s*** when I don’t act’
IDRIS Elba is doing it tough since splitting from his long-term love, saying he needs acting as therapy and when he doesn’t work his life “falls to s***.”
IDRIS Elba seems to be doing it tough since splitting from the mother of his two-year-old son, saying he needs acting as therapy and when he doesn’t work “my life falls to s***.”
Speaking to Esquire magazine the 43-year-old revealed he is struggling since the breakup of his long-term relationship with Naiyana Garth in February, who is the mother of his two-year-old son, Winston.
Asked why he chose acting as a career after already being an acclaimed musician and DJ, Elba responded “Er, therapy. If I’m honest, therapy is a good way to cleanse my ... When I’m not acting is when my life falls to s***.”
“It’s really interesting. Really interesting. I’m going through this b******* right now ’cos I’m not on a film set,” he said. “Had I been on a film set, I wouldn’t even have noticed. Probably. And not only that. If I did, it would have been all invested in my character.’
“Like now, you see me: as soon as I pick up my phone I sort of unravel, right? Don’t pick up the phone! You get to work, you don’t look at the phone ever,” he said.
The actor, who was unlucky not to get an Oscar nomination for his leading role in Beasts of No Nation, also responded to those constant Bond rumours.
“It’s the most covered rumour in the world,” he said about speculation he will take over from Daniel Craig as James Bond. “It doesn’t matter how many people want me to do it. It doesn’t mean I’m going to get it.
“Every single Bond has never been chosen by that [public opinion] and, in fact, the ones that I think are most obvious are probably less likely to get chosen.”
