Why Aussies are invested in new celebrity romance

Two famous Aussie stars have just started dating and have been seen making out but there’s a reason we all care so much about it.

James Stewart and Ada Nichodemou are trying to make a go of it, and it isn’t going to be easy.

The couple that play husband and wife on the long-running Aussie soap Home and Away were recently spotted kissing in Sydney, which confirmed reports the two have taken their on-screen love story off-screen.

James, 48, has just finalised his divorce from Sarah Roberts, another Home and Away star, and Ada, 47, has called it quits with her long-term partner, businessman Adam Rigby.

The couple was spotted sharing a passionate kiss outside The Royal Hotel, a famous drinking hole in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Despite their casual attire — both rocking jeans — their affectionate display did not go unnoticed by papparazzi.

Who wants to be spotted kissing their new partner? The pair aren’t even Instagram official yet, but sadly, James and Ada have become too interesting.

People want to know about this relationship for two reasons, the first being the most obvious.

They play a married couple on television, and it is exciting that their on-screen chemistry has resulted in a real-life romance.

Remember when we all thought Sydney Sweeney was secretly dating her co-star Glen Powell after they filmed that romantic comedy Anyone but You? That was untrue, but very exciting.

The second reason is that both James and Ada were in established relationships before they got together. So, we were used to associating them with other people.

It takes us all a while to adjust when a celebrity couple breaks up. Can anyone ever think of Katie Holmes without thinking about her failed marriage to Tom Cruise? I’ve barely recovered from Andy Lee and Megan Gale calling it quits in 2006.

These two things combined mean they can’t have a sneaky kiss outside a pub without it becoming news.

Usually, in Australia, we leave our celebrities to live their lives and hyper-fixate on the Hollywood ones.

Sure, we like seeing Keith Urban picking up Nicole Kidman from the airport, but we are generally more interested in what Beyoncé is doing than what Luke Hemsworth is getting up to.

We like our local stars but are prepared to leave them alone. Unless they are limping shoeless around a park in Noosa, then that’ll become a media circus.

James and Ada are now considered too interesting! The co-stars are both fresh from long-term relationships and hot.

Now, the two of them have to wade through the realities of a new relationship, like discovering if their partner uses a bar of soap like they are from the 1900s or body wash like someone who has been to the supermarket in the last decade, while we all watch on.

For all we know, they’re a match made in heaven, and they’ll stay together long enough that getting photos of them kissing won’t be interesting anymore.

Nicole and Keith nuzzle so much in public that I think everyone’s lost interest in their PDA.

Or they’ll crash and burn and then have to navigate the fallout awkwardly. One thing is certain: trying to enjoy a new relationship while everyone asks you about it just isn’t ideal.

But just because something isn’t easy doesn’t mean it isn’t worth it.
