A representative for the couple confirmed the divorce news to People magazine, saying: “They have been living separately for the past six months due to work obligations.

“They remain best friends and look forward to their continued journey together.

The Twilight star first met McDonald, who was a season 10 finalist on American Idol, at the premiere of Red Riding Hood back in 2011.

The pair announced their engagement just three months later.

“They will continue to share their love of music, and are still working on their debut album, I’m Not Falling, releasing in 2014,” the rep added.

Reed, 25, has been spotted out in Los Angeles without her wedding ring just one day after announcing her divorce.

The actress, who plays fiery blonde vampire Rosalie in the Twilight films, shared this intimate photo on Instagram just three weeks ago, along with the caption: “Hey McD, happy 3 year anniversary! Here’s to many more of those awkward hugs and butterflies. I am endlessly amazed by your spirit, kindness, and talent. Your soul is one of a kind. Love ya babe.”
