The Veronicas’ star Jess Origliasso has announced her engagement to her transgender boyfriend, Kai Carlton, flaunting her gorgeous engagement ring on Instagram.

Jess, 34, who forms the iconic Aussie pop duo with her twin sister Lisa, became engaged on her one-year anniversary to the fellow musician, who popped the question at the famed Joshua Tree National Park in California.

The pair are currently on holiday.

Jess revealed to her more than 300,000 followers she had been “crying for 2 hours”.

The Veronicas are set to hit the small screen with their new reality show, The Veronicas: Blood is for Life, which hits streaming on Foxtel next week.

Jess famously dated Australian actress Ruby Rose before their relationship turned sour, the high profile couple splitting for good in early 2018 after rekindling a romance that began in 2009.

Jess began dating Kai, who hails from LA, last year after meeting through mutual friends.

There was speculation when the pair began dating about Kai’s gender, who confirmed in June he was “trans male” via Instagram.

“Maybe I just don’t say it that much because I don’t see a reason to really say it socially,” he said. “But I’m a trans male, so that’s why I am prideful.”

Jess’ sister Lisa married American actor Logan Huffman in November last year. Jess and Kai made their debut as a couple at the wedding.

Prior to dating Carlton, Jess had been in a relationship with actress Ruby Rose for nearly two years before splitting in April 2018.

Their split has been acrimonious, with Origliasso going on to accuse Rose of “continued harassment”.

It’s been a headline-making few months for The Veronicas, who were embroiled in a controversy after being kicked off a Qantas flight from Sydney to Brisbane last month.

According to the girls, the dispute was over who could touch their on-board luggage.

They told The Project that after the flight attendant initially left, she returned, with a supervisor, and began having a “very defensive conversation with us about company policy”.

“At that point, Lisa and I asked for their names,” Jess said, saying they couldn’t see who they were on their ID tags.

“At that point they told us they were calling security,” Jess said.

Host Tommy Little asked the pair if the incident was in any way linked to their upcoming show.

“Ha! This is a legal matter, not a publicity stunt,” Jess fired back at Little.

“Does it help that it’s giving you some publicity?” Tommy Little quizzed.

“I don’t think it helps at all,” Lisa said, shaking her head.
