The one big mistake that broke up Megan and Tiffany: ‘We paid the ultimate price’
BACHELOR star Tiffany has revealed what exactly went wrong in her relationship with fellow contestant Megan, saying the couple made one huge mistake.
FORMER Bachelor star Tiffany Scanlon has opened up about her split with girlfriend and fellow contestant Megan Marx.
The girls, who met as contestants vying for Richie Strahan’s heart on The Bachelor, had been officially dating since October and briefly moved to Bali in January. Maxim magazine named them Couple Of The year in its December issue.
Despite their frequent media appearances — the couple even gave an X-rated interview about their relationship on The Kyle & Jackie O Show earlier this year — Scanlon says it was the intense media interest that caused their relationship to crumble.
In a lengthy post on her blog Tiffany Times titled ‘The time I paid the price for fame,’ Scanlon writes that the cost of ‘fame’ has been high: “Was it worth it? probably not.”
When the pair went public with their relationship, Scanlon writes, they were inundated with messages from supporters happy to see a same-sex couple in the public eye. It was this positive reaction that made them decide to live more publicly.
“We made the decision (mistake) at that point to share our relationship with the public mostly via our Instagram accounts. This, I believe, would eventually cost us our relationship,” she writes.
Despite the early encouragement, by around the Christmas/New Year period, Scanlon writes that the couple were increasingly feeling the negative side-effects of such a public relationship: “Strangers grabbing at us for pictures, not even introducing themselves or talking to us, men asking for threesomes, people accusing us of faking our relationship.”
Coupled with this scrutiny: A private battle with depression that Scanlon says she’s fought for much of her adult life.
“I can handle stress, but when that stress is unrelenting and my anxiety builds, I start to lose my grip and this can lead to a very fast downward spiral. This is exactly what happened to me about 2 months ago,” she writes.
This was when the pair were due to relocate for a new life in Bali. Scanlon did make the trip, but anxiety and a panic attack — something she hadn’t experienced since she was a teenager — told her something was very wrong.
“Realising that we were both very unhappy, that we hadn’t been happy for a while, and that we had lost our sense of self, we made the mutual decision to part ways; we had paid the ultimate price for sharing our relationship so publicly and putting so much pressure on it.”
Scanlon appeared on The Kyle and Jackie O Show this morningto further discuss the breakup and publicise her new blog, telling the radio hosts it’s been four weeks since the split.
“I was really devastated when it all happened ... we’re just giving each other some distance and some space,” she explained, saying she’s unsure whether her next partner will be female or male.
