Studio 10’s Sarah Harris weds Tom Ward as wild winds lash Sydney on her wedding day
DESPITE the gale force winds, there wasn’t a wardrobe malfunction in sight when television host Sarah Harris tied the knot thanks to her slim-fitting ivory wedding dress.
DESPITE the gale force winds, there wasn’t a wardrobe malfunction in sight when television host Sarah Harris tied the knot thanks to her slim-fitting ivory wedding dress.
The Studio 10 co-host married her IT partner of five years Tom Ward in a lavish lunch-time ceremony, the weather doing nothing but adding some extra drama.
Wearing an embellished Johanna Johnson capped-sleeve dress and Ward’s grandmother’s pearls, Harris walked down the aisle of the St Ignatius Chapel at Riverview in the arm of good friend Joseph May before tying the knot with her fiance in front of 160 guests including colleagues Ita Buttrose, Joe Hildebrand and Jessica Rowe.
“I am so excited to celebrate my love for my best mate Tom,” Harris told Confidential.
“He is just such a beautiful beautiful soul and I am so lucky to have him.”
Not affected by the less-than-ideal winter weather, Harris, 33, her new husband and their guests then caught choppy ride via a ferry to the Royal Sydney Golf Club for a midday reception.
“The weather doesn’t bother me,” she said.
“As long as you have your good friends, good food, good music and booze, what could go wrong.”
Sitting alongside her three bridesmaids, Harris made a moving speech and spoke of how learning her wedding dance — the cha cha — has been a metaphor for her relationship with Ward, who she refers to as ‘Big Red’.
“During our dance lessons we went into them thinking we knew it all then when the music got going we were out of rhythm, there were squashed toes, we were both struggling to lead, but then because we were committed to those lessons, all of a sudden something clicked and we found our rhythm,” she said.
“We might not always get the steps right but I am happy to be doing the dance with him for the rest of my life.”
The pair met more than five years ago at Fringe Bar, Oxford Street, an encounter Harris said almost didn’t happen.
“I wasn’t even supposed to be going out that night ... but my friend dragged me out and this tall red-haired man strolled over and struck up a conversation with me and it was just perfect,” she said.
Harris and her new husband will today leave for a three week honeymoon around Europe before returning to her role on the Channel 10 morning program.
“That’s the upside to having a wedding in the middle of winter, you get to enjoy a European summer for your honeymoon,” she said.
The pair became engaged in November last year after Ward proposed on Balmoral beach.
Earlier this week pictures of Harris trying on her wedding dress were shopped around however News Corp decided not to run them.
