Sophie Turner has lifted the lid on the devastating fallout of her ugly divorce from Joe Jonas – and the pop star’s surprising role in it all.

Sophie Turner has lifted the lid on the devastating fallout of her divorce from Joe Jonas, admitting it had brought on the “worst few days of [her] life” during which she didn’t know if she “was going to make it.”

In an extraordinarily candid new interview for the June issue of British Vogue, the Game of Thrones star, 28, opened up for the first time about the ugly split, which was announced by the former couple in a statement last September.

Despite initially claiming the separation would be “amicable” for the sake of their two young children, it quickly turned sour as the internet – fuelled by sources claiming to be from each camp – erupted with speculation about what had gone wrong in the marriage.

In particular, allegations surfaced that the final straw had occurred when Jonas, 34, had caught his wife “doing something” on their Ring security camera.

It sparked a wave of criticism aimed at Turner, with rumours running rife that she had been unfaithful or had leaned too heavily into the partying scene.

At the time of the post-announcement media storm, Turner was back in her home country of the UK filming the TV series Joan, while Jonas was in the US with their daughters, Willa, four, and Delphine, who is nearly two.

“I was contracted to be on set for another two weeks, so I couldn’t leave. My kids were in the States and I couldn’t get to them because I had to finish Joan. And all these articles started coming out,” the actress explained, referencing an image of herself enjoying a rare night out with her co-stars.

“It hurt because I really do completely torture myself over every move I make as a mother – mum guilt is so real.

“I just kept having to say to myself, ‘None of this is true. You are a good mum and you’ve never been a partier.

“It’s unfathomable the amount of people that will just make s**t up and put it up based on a picture.

“A picture might tell a thousand words, but it’s not my story. It felt like I was watching a movie of my life that I hadn’t written, hadn’t produced, or starred in. It was shocking. I’m still in shock.”

Shortly afterwards, Turner was spotted back in New York City, where she surprised fans by stepping out to dinner with Taylor Swift – who also happened to be an ex-girlfriend of Jonas’.

As the actress told Vogue, the friendship which developed between the women made her feel “so held” and “so protected”, largely due to Swift’s incredible generosity.

“Taylor was an absolute hero to me this year. I’ve never been more grateful to anyone than I am for her because she took my children and me, and provided us with a home and a safe space,” Turner explained.

“She really has a heart of gold.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Turner – who shot to fame at the age of 13 as Sansa Stark in the juggernaut TV series – described the “worst few days” of her life as she battled it out with Jonas over custody of their kids.

“There were some days that I didn’t know if I was going to make it,” she admitted.

“I would call my lawyer saying, ‘I can’t do this. I just can’t.’ I was just never strong enough to stand up for myself.

“And then, finally, after two weeks of me being in a rut, she reminded me that it was my children I was fighting for.

“Once anyone says to me, ‘Do it for your kids,’ I’m doing it. I wouldn’t do it for myself, but I’ll find the strength for them.”

Months on from the harrowing break-up, and based back in the UK, Turner revealed she’s now “the happiest” she’s been “in a really long time.”

“I’m starting over again, rediscovering what I like to do, who I like to be with,” she said.
