Sophie Turner claims Joe Jonas split happened ‘suddenly’ following big ‘argument’ on his birthday
New court documents have revealed more details about her shock split from Joe Jonas, including the big argument they had on his birthday.
New court documents filed by Sophie Turner’s legal team have revealed more details about her shock split from Joe Jonas.
In the same documents where it was alleged her estranged husband was refusing to let their two young daughters return to their “forever home” in the UK, it was revealed the breakdown of their four-year marriage was “sudden” and stemmed from a massive argument the couple had last month on August 15, which happened to be his 34th birthday.
“The breakdown of the parties’ marriage happened very suddenly,” the documents stated, as seen by Entertainment Tonight. “The parties had an argument on Aug. 15, 2023. On or about Sept. 1, 2023, [Jonas] filed a divorce case against [Turner] in Florida.”
The papers, which were filed by the Game of Thrones actress, 27, in New York on Thursday, also reveal the heartbreaking way she found out her marriage was over.
“On or about Sept. 5, 2023, [Turner] found out through the media that [Jonas] had filed for divorce,” the documents read.
The new court documents also reveal that both Turner and Jonas met recently to discuss their separation, but it appears they are far from reaching a custody arrangement.
In the papers, Turner claims Jonas is refusing to give her the kids’ passports despite previously agreeing that the girls, aged 3 and 1, would live in their mother in the UK amid their split.
“On or about September 17, 2023, the parties met to discuss their separation,” the docs revealed.
“[Turner] reiterated the parties’ agreed plan for the children to return home to England that week. [Jonas] has possession of the children’s passports. He refuses to return the passports to [Turner] and refuses to send the children home to England with [Turner].”
But Jonas has hit back at his ex with a lengthy statement denying the allegations, calling her claims “misleading at best, and a serious abuse of the legal system at worst.”
“Joe and Sophie had a cordial meeting this past Sunday in New York, when Sophie came to New York to be with the kids. They have been with her since that meeting. Joe’s impression of the meeting was that they had reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable co-parenting setup,” the statement read.
In his statement, Jonas’ team said that Turner did a backflip as “less than 24 hours later” she expressed her wishes to take their daughters “permanently to the UK”.
His team said that she “demanded” he forfeit the children’s passports so she can depart for the UK “immediately”.
“Joe is seeking shared parenting with the kids so that they are raised by both their mother and father, and is of course also okay with the kids being raised both in the US and the UK,” his statement reads.
“The children were born in the U.S. and have spent the vast majority of their lives in the U.S. They are American citizens.”
