Shannen Doherty hits out at ‘open marriage’ claim: ‘Absolute lie’

Actress Shannen Doherty has hit out at an as-yet-unpublished report by TMZ, which she says will claim that she and her ex-husband had an “open marriage.”

The former Beverly Hills 90210 star spoke out on Instagram overnight, revealing that she had received a “disturbing phone call” that TMZ would soon be running a story about her.

“The story supposedly comes from my husbands friends (soon to be ex) that he told me two years ago he was cheating on me and we have had an open marriage. This is an absolute lie,” she wrote, telling her fans that she will soon go into more detail about the breakdown of her marriage on her podcast Let’s Be Clear.

She also sent a message to the anonymous source of the TMZ story: “I realise you’re scared of the truth but trying to circumvent it with lies will get you nowhere. #thetruthmatters,” she wrote.

It comes as Doherty and her ex have been locked in a public war of words, both parties disputing the other’s version of events about the end of their marriage.

In an episode of her Let’s Be Clear podcast last week, Doherty, who is living with stage four cancer, made the shocking allegation that she learned her husband had allegedly cheated on her shortly before entering surgery to have a brain tumour removed.

“I went into that surgery early in the morning and I went in after I found out that my marriage was essentially over, that my husband had been carrying on an affair for two years,” she said. “To not go in that surgery, even though, being very clear, he wanted to go, I couldn’t go into that surgery with him there. I felt so betrayed.”

But Iswarienko has pushed back on those claims, with “sources close” to him telling TMZ that the couple had actually been living “separate lives” for two years before her January 2023 surgery, and were even living in different states. While TMZ is yet to run any claims of an “open marriage,” this new post does claim Iswarienko had been “upfront about starting a new relationship with someone else” while he and Doherty were allegedly privately separated.

Doherty married photographer Kurt Iswarienko in 2011 and filed for divorce in April of this year. She revealed eight years ago that she had Stage 4 breast cancer – last month she gave fans the heartbreaking update that the cancer has now spread to her bones.

“I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better,” Doherty toldPeople of the devastating new diagnosis.
