Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher’s marriage breakdown was sparked by one fundamental disagreement, a new report claims.

The “real reason” behind Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher’s marriage breakdown has been revealed.

On Friday Sacha, 52, and Isla, 48, shared on Instagram that they had split after 14 years of marriage.

The former couple, who met back in 2001, had actually gone their separate ways last year, but kept their split a secret.

Now The Mail On Sunday has revealed that the reason behind their break-up was over a disagreement on where they wanted to live, after splitting their time between LA and Australia.

According to the publication, rumours that their marriage was over “began to swirl last year when the couple began househunting in London”.

The outlet wrote: “However, Baron Cohen, 52, who grew up in Hammersmith and is very close to his family, was itching to return to London, while his wife was happier in her native Australia.

“The disagreement over where they lived is said to have taken its toll on the pair, who had been together since 2001.”

They moved to Sydney during the coronavirus pandemic back in 2020, then relocated to Perth, where Fisher’s family is based, in 2021.

A friend of the couple added to the publication: “The return to the UK came from nowhere.

“They had been living away from Britain for a while and they weren’t expected to relocate.

“But things were becoming difficult and, as they say, home is where the heart is. Perhaps Sacha thought that would make things better.

“It didn’t, though – things just crumbled and crumbled.”

It comes after Rebel Wilson, 44, has appeared to take a cryptic swipe at former co-star Sacha’s marriage split.

Their split came after Wilson made shock claims about her experience with comedian Sacha in her new memoir, Rebel Rising.

In her latest Instagram post, she appeared to take a slight dig at the Ali G star by saying “what a week” it had been.

Aussie actress Wilson played Baron Cohen’s girlfriend in 2016 action comedy Grimsby.

In her memoir, she said it “felt like Sacha Baron Cohen had sexually harassed me” during filming in South Africa.

The Sun understands Wilson’s claims, made in her memoir, and vehemently denied by him, were a catalyst for Fisher, 48, to publicly reveal the break-up.

Isla’s pain

Just two months ago fisher opened up about her Valentine’s Day plans with Baron Cohen’s on live TV – despite secretly not being together.

Appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Fisher revealed: “Every year Sacha does give me a card that (says) ‘happy Valentine’s from …’ and then there’s a massive question mark, as if anybody else would … as if I have any other Valentines.”

Clarkson replied: “You just seem like a fun couple. I love that.”

It is believed that their split announcement was “on the cards for some time” following their shock joint statement.

Baron Cohen and fisher said in a joint Instagram post: “After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down.

“In 2023, we jointly filed to end our marriage.

“We have always prioritised our privacy, and have been working through this change.

“We forever share in our devotion and love for our children.”

“We sincerely appreciate you respecting our families’ wish for privacy.”
