DAVID Cassidy and his wife Sue Cassidy are calling it quits after 23 years of marriage.

TMZ is reporting that the 1970s heart-throb is currently getting treatment for an ongoing battle with alcoholism.

“I’m glad David is getting the help he needs, and I am confident he will come back better and stronger than ever,” Sue Cassidy said.

However, she did not comment on whether her estranged husband’s addiction issues were at the root of their separation.

Last month, the former Partridge Family star was arrested for drunk-driving in Los Angeles (his third such offence), after which he checked into rehab, where he is still receiving treatment.

The couple, who married in 1991, have been together a total of 28 years and have one son, 23-year-old Beau Devin Cassidy.

While Sue Cassidy did not confirm the exact reason why they decided to divorce after more than two decades together, she did say it wasn’t an overnight decision, and there are reports the couple has been living apart for the past four months.

“This has been looming for some time,” she said.

Still, Sue Cassidy says that she’s devastated by the split.

“I am truly heartbroken that our marriage is ending,” she said.
