One Tree Hill’s Sophia Bush was ‘talked into’ marrying co-star Chad Michael Murray

IT SEEMED like a fairytale Hollywood romance when One Tree Hill co-stars Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray got married in 2005. But the reality was far from it.

THE lead-up to Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray’s wedding wasn’t as romantic as fans may think.

Bush has been vocal about the mistake that was that relationship — she once said they had “no business being in a relationship in the first place” — but now she says she felt pressured into marrying her One Tree Hill co-star because of their work environment.

Bush and Murray met on the show and married in 2005, before separating just five months later.

“Ladies have to learn how to take up space in the way that men are taught they are entitled to …” Bush, 35, told Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM show Andy Cohen Live this week.

Cohen then asked her, “I don’t understand because if you didn’t want to get married, how do you get to the point of being, like, talked into it?”

“Because how do you let everyone down and how do you, what’s the fight? And when you have bosses telling you that you are the only person who gets a person to work on time and 200 people either get to see their kids at night or they don’t because our days start on time,” Bush answered.

Though the marriage was a dark period in her life, it seems Bush has a sense of humour about it now that more than a decade has passed.

“[One Tree Hill co-star] Hilarie [Burton] and I used to laugh and we were like, ‘If we had a behind the scenes show the drama would be so much f*cking better than the drama that the writers write,’” she quipped.

It’s not the first time Bush has expressed her regret over the short-lived marriage.

In late 2016 during the US election, hit out at an Instagram user who blamed her for their breakup during a heated political debate, and described her ex-husband as a “f**kboy.”

After Bush declared her support for Hillary Clinton, a user tweeted at her “So @sophiabush you side with liars? No wonder Chad cheated on you, your taste sucks. UNFOLLOW.”

The former Chicago PD star — who recently hit out on Twitter at a “creepy” fan who harassed her on a plane — wasn’t going to let the inappropriate comment slide.

She replied: “Super classy, Ally. Yes I side with the most experienced person to ever run over a white supremacist, pathological liar who is a crook that has defrauded our government. And claims that doing so makes him “smart.” Much like him you seem to blame women for their f**kboy partners’ actions. Hope that kind of karma doesn’t sucker punch you some day. Good luck in life to you. You seem to need it.”

Bush was quickly inundated with messages of support from fans, praising her for sticking up for herself and being “a great role model.”

The incident clearly dredged up distressing memories for the actress, who originally attempted to have the marriage annulled on the basis of ‘fraud’ back in early 2006.

It was denied, and the pair had to settle for a divorce later that year.

Despite the messy breakup, Bush and Murray continued working together in close quarters on One Tree Hill until the series wrapped in 2009.
