Miley Cyrus’ cheeky dig at exes on The Project

Miley Cyrus sat down for an interview on The Project last night, where Lisa Wilkinson was left shocked by her X-rated gaffe.

Miley's cheeky dig at exes on The Project

Miley Cyrus has explained why she told her ex partners to “eat sh*t” in her latest music video.

The US singer recently released the edgy video for her latest song Prisoner with Dua Lipa, in which a message flashes at the end reading: “In loving memory of all my exes, eat sh*t”.

Appearing on The Project last night to promote her new album Plastic Hearts, the 28-year-old told Lisa Wilkinson she was trying to make light of hurtful breakups.

“I think life can be very painful sometimes so poking fun at it and laughing along with it …” she began.

“Like, I always feel like it’s (life) laughing at me, you know, pulling strings, just creating whatever chaos it wants to and it doesn’t take it easy on us, and I think that (message) was a way that I was able to fight back at that and poke a little fun at it.”

When asking the question, a usually conservative Wilkinson actually used the words “eat sh*t”, which Channel 10 didn’t bleep out.

And while Cyrus told Wilkinson she appreciated her using the swear word, saying “I like it when you say ‘eat sh*t’”, the TV host said she was mortified.

“I am so sorry, I thought that was going to be bleeped out, I’m just quoting Miley,” Wilkinson told viewers at the end of the interview.

Cyrus married Australian actor Liam Hemsworth before their shock split in August last year, more than a decade after they met and fell in love on set of The Last Song.

She then dated fellow Aussie, singer Cody Simpson, for 10 months before announcing their split in August this year.

Elsewhere in the interview, Cyrus was a little more sentimental about her links to Australia as she discussed her disappointment of not being able to travel down under to perform a planned bushfire relief concert in March due to coronavirus.

“Australia obviously being very … It’s been kind of a staple for me in so many personal and professional ways and it was definitely a bummer,” she said.

Just last week, Cyrus opened up about her divorce from Hemsworth, revealing there had been “too much conflict” in their relationship but that she will “always” love him.

She cited the wild California bushfires in 2018, which burnt down the home she shared with Hemsworth, as to why they rushed into making their union official.

“Our house burned down. We had been like, engaged – I don’t know if we really ever thought we were actually going to get married, but when we lost our house in Malibu – which if you listen to my voice pre- and post-fire, they’re very different so that trauma really affected my voice,” she said.

“I had so much and it was all gone, every song I had ever written was in that house. Every photograph of me that my parents had given to me, all my scripts, I lost everything. And so in trying to put that back together, instead of going, ‘Oh, nature kind of did something I couldn’t do for myself; it forced me to let go,’ I ran toward the fire.

“You’re attracted to that heat and me being an intense person and not wanting to sit with it, and not wanting to go, you know, ‘What could be purposeful about this?’ I just clung to what I had left of that house, which was me and him.

“And I really do and did love him very, very, very much and still do, always will.”
