MARIAH Carey has reportedly started divorce proceedings against Nick Cannon as he backtracked on comments attributed to him about their marriage woes.
“Mariah has started the divorce process. She’s getting all of her ducks in a row,” a source told E! News.
According to the insider, “Nick recently asked if she wanted to bring in a marriage counsellor” to help them with their issues but Carey is still furious over Cannon’s comments to the media regarding their troubles.
“She won’t be caught off-guard again,” the source said. “She was devastated when he spoke out about their issues. She’s started the proceedings to make sure the ball is in her court from now on.”
The report comes after Cannon took to Twitter to rant about how he “never said” his marriage was in trouble to begin with.
The America’s Got Talent host had reportedly said there was “trouble in paradise” when asked about his marriage last month, but now Cannon has claimed this was made-up.
“’Trouble in Paradise’ is the dumbest phrase I’ve ever heard! I would never say that s***,” he tweeted.
Reports emerged last month that Cannon and Carey had been living “in separate houses for a few months” and that he had “really upset her by speaking out of turn”.
Cannon has said that reports about what he reportedly said are false, and would only concede that the couple was going through a “difficult time”.
“I have personally been absent from social media for the past few months for obvious reasons but I feel the need to finally speak up,” he said.
“For the record I NEVER have, nor will I make a statement regarding my marriage.”
He did, however, add that the pair is going through a “challenging time”.
Carey, who married Cannon in 2008 (and has three-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe with him), has remained mum on the split.
“What infuriates me most is to hear people slander @MariahCarey,” Cannon continued. “I will forever be in debted to her for blessing me with our children. I will always love her unconditionally for this and so much more. @MariahCarey is an amazing Mother and I trust her wholeheartedly,” he added.
“I love @MariahCarey and that will never change!!!”

Because my family & I haven't been forthcoming with personal information, people are quick to paint negative pictures and spread rumours
