Mandy Moore has criticised her ex-husband Ryan Adams over his very public apology to her and the other women he “mistreated” over the years, revealing he’d never actually spoken about it to her directly.

The This Is Us star shared her reaction to Adams’ recent statement during an appearance on the US Today show on Monday, explaining she “hasn’t heard from him”.

“I’m not looking for an apology necessarily, but I do find it curious that someone would do an interview about it without actually making amends privately.”

She also took to Twitter in the wake of his letter, describing it as an “empty, performative act of contrition”.

Moore, 36, has previously said the musician, 45, was “psychologically abusive” and controlling during their seven-year marriage from 2009 to 2016.

On Monday, Adams released an apology letter via the Daily Mail claiming he is “still reeling from the ripples of devastating effects” caused by his actions.

“There are no words to express how bad I feel about the ways I’ve mistreated people throughout my life and career. All I can say is that I’m sorry. It’s that simple. This period of isolation and reflection made me realise that I needed to make significant changes in my life.

“To the cynics who may say this is a career comeback attempt,” Adams continued, “to a lot of people this will just seem like the same empty bulls**t apology that I’ve always used when I was called out, and all I can say is, this time it is different. Having truly realised the harm that I’ve caused, it wrecked me, and I’m still reeling from the ripples of the devastating effects that my actions triggered.”

After the accusations that surfaced in a February 2019 bombshell New York Times article in which the women said, “Adams offered to jump-start their music careers, then pursued them sexually and in some cases retaliated when they spurned him,” Adams scrapped a planned album and tour.

With the exception of several social media posts last year, he has remained mostly quiet.

Adams acknowledged his actions in the past were due to his own issues, writing: “I took a hard look inward and sought to find the truth behind them. What pain was I carrying myself that was so poorly and wrongly being projected onto others?

“I made a promise to myself that no matter what it took, I would get to the root of these issues and finally start to fix myself so I could be a better friend, a better partner, and a better man overall.”
