Louis Tomlinson breaks years of silence over wild Harry Styles romance rumour

Louis Tomlinson has broken years of silence to finally address a more than a decade-long rumour about his time within One Direction.

During his time in the band, Tomlinson shared a close bond with bandmate Harry Styles.

As the band became international stars, rumours began circulating within the fandom that suggested their friendship had developed into a secret romance.

Rumours that they were romantically linked swirled for years, with many fans adamantly believing them to be together.

After years of failing to address the rumours, Tomlinson has finally broken his silence in a new interview to reveal if there was any truth behind the claims.

“What’s tough is, I realised this some years ago – there is nothing I can say. There is nothing I can do to dispel the believers of that conspiracy,” the singer told G1, a Brazilian news organisation.

“They are so intertwined with what they believe to be the truth now that they won’t actually see the truth for what it is.

“It does irritate me a little bit, you know? But it is just kind of [the] nature of the job, I suppose. There are times where it gets a little bit … at times it gets far too personal within that whole space.

“I’ve got my son Freddie [who is] the most important person in my life. Occasionally it kind of broaches some stuff that is really unfair.”

Fan fiction of Styles and Tomlinson has been shared millions of times on platforms like Tumblr, Twitter and TikTok.

The rumours even entered mainstream pop-culture, with a character on HBO’s Euphoria admitting to creating some “fan fiction” of the pair during a scene in season one.

“So it kind of just is this thing that exists now,” added Tomlinson. “There’s nothing I can do about it, there’s nothing I can say about it to stop people making up what they want to make up. So be it!”

Meanwhile, Tomlinson previously confessed to being “jealous” of Styles’ wildly successful solo career.

“I’d be lying if I said it didn’t bother me at first,” he said in 2022. “Only ‘cos I didn’t know where to place myself, and really my only point of reference was other members of the band. But it’s not surprising to me that Harry’s the most commercially successful because he really fits the mold of a modern star.”
