Kanye West objects Kim Kardashian’s divorce demands
After weeks of attempting to settle their divorce, Kim Kardashian has finally received a response from Kanye West via his lawyer, and he’s still not playing ball.
Kanye West has objected Kim Kardashian’s latest divorce request, as his lawyer filed counter documents against her.
West, 44, filed a response on Thursday to his estranged wife’s request to be declared legally single amid their ongoing divorce, stating he wants safeguards for his assets in place before a ruling — and claiming Kardashian’s lawyer rejected all of his suggestions.
West, now legally known as Ye, appears to be concerned that the Skims founder could remarry before the divorce is finalised, which could be the prompt for the documentation, obtained by Page Six.
In the documents, the Donda rapper asks that they establish a “right of reimbursement,” in which either party would be reimbursed moneys owed in case one of them died.
Kardashian’s lawyer, however, “asserted that this condition is unnecessary given the premarital agreement.”
West also wants to ensure that no assets are transferred out of trusts they created, but Kardashian, 41, claims in the documents that such a condition would be “unnecessary” given the terms of their prenup. (The former couple’s prenup has kept all of their assets separate since the start of the marriage.)
“This is not an extravagant request,” the documents state. “This condition merely maintains the parties in the same position they are in now.”
Lastly — and perhaps most notably — West wants the KKW Beauty founder to waive marital privilege until they’ve reached a final custody agreement on their four kids and a finalised property agreement.
Without marital privilege, all communications between the Yeezy fashion designer and Kardashian would be part of the court record. West also wants the former E! reality star to waive the privilege if she remarries so any conversations about custody would be accessible in court.
However, West agreed to exceptions related to “income, expenses, assets, debts and employment,” which would remain private.
