Depp is suing British paper The Sun over a 2018 story stating he is a “wife-beater,” which he claims cost him the role in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Depp, who finalised his divorce from Heard in 2016, is also suing her in the US in a $US50 million defamation case. Depp strongly denies abusing Heard, claiming she was the “aggressor.”

It’s been a headline-making court case so far …

THE SEVERED FINGER

Depp had claimed in US court papers that Heard had chopped off the top of his right middle finger by throwing a bottle of vodka at him during a violent altercation just a month after they were married.

But two texts Depp wrote to his personal doctor, David Kipper, in 2015 were read out in London’s High Court this week, in which Depp admits he inflicted the grisly injury himself.

The court also heard a chilling account of the March 2015 fight where Depp, 56, allegedly ripped off 33-year-old Heard’s nightgown, grabbed her by her breasts, then by her neck and strangled her.

On March 7, 2015, Depp wrote, “I cut the top of my middle finger off … What should I do!?? Except, of course, go to a hospital …. I’m so embarrassed for jumping into anything with her … F**K THE WORLD!!! JD.”

Then 12 days later he added to his doctor, “Thank you for everything. I have chopped off my left middle finger as a reminder that I should never cut my finger off again!! I love you, brother. Johnny.”

THREATS TO ‘BURN’ AND ‘DROWN’

Previously unseen 2013 messages alleged to have been sent by the Pirates Of The Caribbean star to actor friend Paul Bettany were read out in London’s High Court.

He allegedly wrote on November 6, 2013, “Let’s burn Amber,” the court heard.

The court was told he allegedly texted Bettany again that day to say, “Let’s drown her before we burn her!!! I will f**k her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she is dead.”

The court also heard further texts allegedly sent by Depp to Bettany in May 2014, which read: “I’m gonna properly stop the booze thing, darling … Drank all night before I picked Amber up to fly to LA, this past Sunday … Ugly, mate.

“No food for days … powders … half a bottle of whiskey, a thousand red bull and vodkas, pills, 2 bottles of Champers on plane and what do you get..???

“An angry, aggro Injun in a f**kin’ blackout, screaming obscenities and insulting any f**k who got near … I’m done.

“I am admittedly too f**ked in the head to spray my rage at the one I love … For little reason, as well I’m too old to be that guy. But, pills are fine!!!”

AMBER ADMITS ‘HITTING’ JOHNNY

Heard admits to “hitting” Depp and warns she “can’t promise you I won’t get physical again” in an explosive audio confession published by The Daily Mail.

In the audio, recorded a few months before Heard filed for divorce, the pair discuss a violent dust-up the previous evening where Depp accuses her of punching him in the jaw.

“I’m sorry that I didn’t … hit you across the face in a proper slap, but I was hitting you, it was not punching you,” she says. “Babe, you’re not punched.”

Depp, audibly upset, says, “Don’t tell me what it feels like to be punched!”

Heard replies sarcastically, “I know, you’ve been in a lot of fights, been around a long time. I know, I know. Yeah.”

Depp says, “No! When you have a f***ing closed fist.”

Heard says, “You didn’t get punched. You got hit. I’m sorry I hit you like this. But I did not punch you. I did not f***ing deck you. I f***ing was hitting you. I don’t know what the motion of my actual hand was, but you’re fine, I did not hurt you, I did not punch you, I was hitting you.”

Towards the end of the tape, Depp talks about the need for the couple to move to separate rooms if an argument “escalates to the point of where it’s just insulting for both of us … or if it gets to that physical f***ing sh*t, the violence”.

“I can’t promise that it will all be perfect,” Heard says. “I can’t promise you I won’t get physical again. God I f***ing sometimes I get so mad I lose it.”

‘I DID MEAN TO HIT YOU’

Heard admitted to smashing a door into Depp’s head in another leaked recording from their explosive court battle. In the tape, she admits to also “clocking” Depp in the jaw, saying, “I am so sorry … I can remember hitting you as a response to the door thing. And I’m really sorry about hitting you with the door or hitting your head. I did not mean to.”

Depp’s lawyers played the audiotape to Heard in August 2016 while she was giving a videotaped deposition in their bitter divorce trial. On the audiotape, Depp is heard saying, “I’d just been hit in the head with a f**king corner of the door … And then I stood up and then you f**king clock me.” Heard responds, “I did not do this thing with the door … [but] I did mean to hit you.”

In the deposition, after listening to the audiotape, Heard repeatedly claims that she didn’t purposely slam the door into Depp’s face. “I was trying to escape from a room where Johnny was attacking me … I was trying to get onto the other side of the door, attempting to close the door, and he was attempting to get in, despite my attempts to try to escape an assault.”

Of her apology to Depp on the tape, “I made it very clear I was sorry that the door hit him as I went into the room I was … attempting to escape into.” But she told Depp’s lawyers in the deposition that the taped conversation “misrepresents what actually happened, which is him trying to get into a room, which I was trying to get him out of”.

DEPP’S EXES WADE IN

Winona Ryder, who dated Depp between 1989-1993, filed a legal declaration saying it is “impossible to believe” Heard's claims of violence by the star.

Ryder and Depp were one of Hollywood’s A-list couples with the 21 Jump Street star famously getting a “Winona Forever” tattoo to show his devotion to the Mermaids actress. He subsequently changed it to say “Wino Forever” when they split.

In a legal filing obtained by The Blast, Ryder says she found it hard to believe Depp would ever commit an act of domestic violence.

“I do not want to call anyone a liar but from my experience of Johnny, it is impossible to believe that such horrific allegations are true,” she said. “I find it extremely upsetting knowing him as I do.’

“I knew Johnny very well years ago. We were together as a couple for four years, and I counted him as my best friend, and as close to me as family. I count our relationship as one of the more significant relationships of my life. I understand that it is very important that I speak from my own experience,” the Stranger Things star stated.

“I obviously was not there during his marriage to Amber, but, from my experience, which was so wildly different, I was absolutely shocked, confused and upset when I heard the accusations against him.”

“The idea that he is an incredibly violent person is the farthest thing from the Johnny I knew and loved. I cannot wrap my head around these accusations,” she said. “I truly and honestly only know him as a really good man – an incredibly loving, extremely caring guy who was so very protective of me and the people that he loves, and I felt so very, very safe with him.”

Fellow ex, Vanessa Paradis, 47, also filed a declaration in support of Depp. The couple were together for 14 years, from 1999 to 2012, and had two children together.

“On movie sets the actors, directors and entire crews adore him because he is humble and respectful to everyone, as well as being one of the best actors we’ve seen,” the declaration said.

“I am aware of the allegations which Amber Heard has publicly accused Johnny of for more than 4 years now … This is nothing like the true Johnny I have known, and from my personal experience of many years, I can say he was never violent or abusive to me.” Paradis goes on to state in her declaration, “I have seen that these outrageous statements have been really distressing, and also caused damage to his career because unfortunately, people have gone on believing these false facts.”
