The court case of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has seen images of a foul mouthed tirade carved onto furniture and heard of the couple’s disgusting home.

Johnny Depp carved bizarre foul mouthed messages into a kitchen bench top, the court has heard in the ongoing defamation trial between the star and his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The testimony came from Josh Drew, the former husband of Raquel Pennington, one of Heard’s best friends.

On Wednesday, Mr Drew also said Heard was “catatonic” following one fight with Depp and he commented on the disgusting state of the couple’s penthouse flat because their dogs Pistol and Boo were not house trained and would urinate and defecate constantly and all over the furniture.

Ms Pennington also gave testimony where she said Depp had told he cut off his own finger. How he injured his finer has been discussed at length in the trial, with Depp’s team insisting he lost the tip of finger after Heard threw a bottle at him.

Heard is being sued by Depp for $US50million ($A67m) for implying he abused her in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed. Although she did not name him, he claims her allegations are false and cost him lucrative movie roles. Ms Heard has countersued, asking for $US100 million ($A134m) and claiming she suffered “rampant physical violence and abuse” at his hands.

Bizarre scrawlings in kitchen

The court was played a deposition from Mr Drew which was recorded in 2019. A deposition is a recorded formal interview under oath outside of the courtroom where legal teams for both sides can gather information on the case before a trial begins.

Mr Drew and Ms Pennington were the neighbours of Depp and Heard and one of their Los Angeles homes.

He said he arrived at the stars’ home in December 2015 to find the kitchen a mess.

“The kitchen island area, things were strewn about, outside of the norm,” Mr Drew said.

That mess included odd carvings scratched into the bench top surface.

The carving said “Why be a fraud? All is bulls**t.”

Mr Drew didn’t see the bizarre incident take place but he said he believed it to be Depp’s work due to his “unique mode of penmanship”.

He said he knew something “very, very bad had happened”.

The case has seen multiple instances of bizarre writing on fixtures and fittings house including scrawlings on mirrors which Heard said were done by Depp.

Dogs defecated all over stars’ home

Mr Drew also gave an eyebrow raising description of the state of the couple’s house. Which in one word was disgusting.

He was asked by Heard’s lawyer if he had seen dog “poop or pee” in the pair’s apartment.

“In perpetuity, it was pretty much constant. I’ve cleaned up my fair share in that apartment.

“(The dogs) weren’t trained at all, they’d be left home for large portions of the day and if there was nobody there to take care of them at some point there was pee and poop on everything – couches, sofas, chairs, bed you name it”.

The focus on Pistol and Boo’s toilet habits is due to a claim by Depp that Heard and Ms Pennington played a prank on him by planting faeces in his bed. But Heard has said one of the dogs would commonly defecate following ingesting some of Depp’s cannabis when it was younger.

Heard was ‘catatonic’

In his recorded deposition, Mr Drew also recounted an alleged fight between Heard and Depp. In May 2015, he said he heard a bottle smash and then was confronted by Depp who was talking “gibberish” and was “close enough to be aggressive”.

Heard and Ms Pennington said there had been a confrontation with Depp.

“Amber was like cationic, like a thousand-yard stare and she was like done. Like a ghost.”

In another prerecorded deposition, filmed in January 2022, Ms Pennington was asked if Depp had told her if he had cut off his own finger. “Yes,” she replied.

Musk visits to Heard

Mr Drew also testified that Tesla billionaire Elon Musk visited Heard at her LA penthouse three or four weeks after Heard filed for a temporary restraining order against Depp in 2016.

Heard and Musk dated for a time after her divorce from Depp.

Heard had alleged that Depp injured his finger during a trip in Australia in May 2015 after he went into a rage and ripped an antique phone off a wall. But Depp has said the limb was left bloodied after Heard threw a bottle at him when she was in a rage.

In her testimony, Ms Pennington said she saw “very, very, long deep” cuts on Heard’s forearms as well as cuts on her feet after she came back from Australia. She also said that on another occasion she saw a bloody mark on Heard’s head where some hair had been ripped out, a bloodied lip and swelling on her nose.

“I was worried for her physical safety. I was worried that when he turned, he might accidentally do something that was worse than he ever intended,” said Ms Pennington.
