Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet split: Couple haven’t attended event together in two years

Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet announced their shock split this week, but the pair hadn’t been seen publicly together in almost two years.

Certified Hollywood power couple Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet shocked the showbiz world when they announced their split this week.

The pair – who were married for almost five years and have been together since 2005 – were often coined one of showbiz’s “coolest couples”, with Momoa regularly gushing about his wife in interviews.

“We are parting ways in marriage. We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy. But so that as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty,” they wrote in a joint statement on Thursday.

It was certainly a split we didn’t see coming, but after a little further digging, perhaps we should have.

The Aquaman actor, 42, and The Cosby Show star, 54, have not been seen together since March 2020 – almost two years ago.

Their last official public showing together was in February 2020 at the Tom Ford Fashion Show in California, after attending a string of red carpets in the months prior including the 2020 Golden Globes.

Over on social media, the last sign of them being together appears as though it was on International Women’s Day in March 2020, with Momoa uploading a photo of Bonet and several other women with the caption, “HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY to all the goddesses in my life.”

The last time it appears Momoa talked about Bonet was in an interview with Men’s Health in November 2020, in which he recalled being “nervous” to ask her out on a first date.

He admitted he was a fan of Bonet long before they met.

“Especially when you meet someone you’re completely infatuated with and then find out she’s amazing, intelligent and funny – and she’s a goddess and you’re a degenerate,” he said at the time.

Despite not being strangers to the tinsel town social scene, where they often kissed for the throng of photographers, Bonet didn’t accompany her husband to any of his events in 2021.

Instead, Momoa brought their two children, Lola, 14, and Nakoa-Wolf, 13, along to the No Time To Die premiere in London in September.

The following month, he walked the red carpet solo for the premiere of his major blockbuster, Dune, in London.

While Bonet doesn’t have social media, her ex-husband, musician Lenny Kravitz, did share a tribute to Momoa on his 42nd birthday in August last year.

“Happy Birthday, Jason. I’m proud to call you my brother. One love. One family,” Kravitz wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of himself with Momoa.

Bonet and Momoa were married in a small ceremony at their Los Angeles home in October 2017.

When asked about newlywed life on the Justice League red carpet, Momoa and Bonet admitted their relationship felt “different” since becoming man and wife despite having been together for more than a decade.

“Absolutely. I never thought it would,” Momoa told E! News. “We have a 10-and-a-half-year-old, 9-year-old, [I] plan on being with her the rest of my life, but it’s just that moment where [you decide] let’s go to the next level. I’ll be here your whole life.”
