Women the world over have noted each new girlfriend with barely-hidden suspicion and have secretly been relieved to hear of the relationship’s passing.
But that’s all over now after confirmation he’s finally put a ring on the finger of human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, who even his mum approves of.

80s: Dedee Pfeiffer
In the 80s Clooney dated actress Dedee Pfeiffer (right) sister to the very famous Michelle Pfeiffer.
1989: Kelly Preson
Around 1989 Clooney started seeing the now wife of John Travolta, Kelly Preston, the pair even shared custody of a pet pig, Max, who died in 2006.
Talia Balsam
Before she married Mad Men’s John Slattery, Talia Balsam actually got Clooney down the aisle in Vegas in 1989. Sadly it wasn’t to be and the pair were divorced in 1993.
Clooney told Vanity Fair: “I probably — definitely — wasn’t someone who should have been married at that point.”

1993: Kimberly Russell
Post-divorce George was smitten with actress Kimberly Russell. The pair met on a Martini commercial.
1995: Karen Duffy
In 1995 George Clooney arrived at the Emmy Awards with former MTV veejay Karen Duffy. Rumours were rife that the pair were an item.
1996 — 1999: Celine Balitran
From the years 1996 to 1999 George Clooney was smitten with Celine Balitran, who he met while she was a waitress.
1999 — 2000: Lucy Liu and Charlize Theron
Charlies Angels actress Lucy Liu is rumoured to be one of George Clooney’s former loves, although it was never confirmed. The pair grew close around the year 2000 and were even snapped by paparazzi sharing a New Year’s smooch.
Although rumours also circulated that Clooney had his eye on none other than Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron that same year.
2001 — 2006: Renée Zellweger, Krista Allen and Lisa Snowden
In 2001 it was Renée Zellweger’s turn to be the centre of the ‘Who’s Dating George Clooney’ rumour mill. The pair maintained they were ‘just good friends’.
Actress Krista Allen, who met Clooney on the set of his film, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind was Clooney’s next love interest. The pair were on-and-off-again from 2002-2006.
Sadly for Krista Allen however Clooney also had another on-off-again girlfriend, British model and TV presenter, Lisa Snowden. These two were ALSO said to have split in 2006.
2007 — 2008: Sarah Larson
Between 2007-2008 George Clooney dated former model and cocktail waitress Sarah Larson, who says of the relationship: “It was quick,” (Larson told Access Hollywood of their breakup)
“You know, breakups are difficult, but people, we move on, go onto other things.”
2009 — 2011: Elisabetta Canalis
George Clooney then moved on to Italian beauty Elisabetta Canalis who was his main lady from 2009 to 2011.
2011 — 2013: Stacy Keibler
Obviously needing a firm hand when it comes to love George Clooney mended his broken heart with former pro-wrestler Stacy Keibler whom he met at an Oscars party. The pair split mid 2013 — find out why here.
2013 — Today: Amal Alamuddin
Just a few weeks later, in October 2013, Clooney was first photographed with lawyer Amal Alamuddin but sightings of the press-shy pair have been rare.
Fast forward to this week and the rumours are swirling that the loved-up couple have become engaged after Clooney supposedly proposing over a romantic dinner in Malibu. Amal Alamuddin has since been spotted wearing a huge engagement ring around the streets of LA.
Rumours have since been confirmed with the lawyers’s firm sending congratulations to the pair.
