Aussie model Steph Claire Smith claims she ‘ghosted’ Leonardo DiCaprio after nightclub encounter

The Aussie model recalls catching the Oscar winner’s eye in LA when she was just 19, with the actor apparently asking for her phone number.

Australian model Steph Claire Smith has claimed she ghosted Leonardo DiCaprio after an encounter on a night out many years ago.

The 29-year-old said she caught the eye of the Oscar winner, now 48, at a nightclub in LA when she was just 19, with the actor allegedly attempting to shoot his shot.

“I was dancing on my own for most of the night, and I noticed someone looking at me and I realised this guy is wearing one of those hats, like those English hats and I was like, he kinda looks like Leonardo DiCaprio,” she recalled on a recent episode of her podcast, KICPOD.

“Then my friend came over and was like, ‘Steph, apparently Leonardo DiCaprio is here’ and I was like “Wow, it is him!’”

Smith told her co-host Laura Henshaw that she and her friends went to another nightclub later that evening when she again apparently ran into DiCaprio. She said this time a member of his entourage approached her.

“This person that was with him weaved themselves through the crowd and was like, ‘Do you want to meet Leo?’ Abso-f***ing-lutely I do!” she recalled.

“So we went over, he did the whole French double kiss on the cheek … and then he was like, ‘Can I grab your number, I would love to take you out for dinner to some of the nicest restaurants around here.’”

“He then messaged us and said, ‘This is Leo, this is the number you can contact me on,’” claimed Smith, who said she “never replied” to his message.

Henshaw couldn’t believe Smith left the acclaimed actor “on read”, saying: “You ghosted Leonardo DiCaprio.”

But the model explained she was already dating her now-husband, Josh Miller, at the time.

Smith said she told Miller of her encounter with DiCaprio straight away and he was more impressed than jealous.

“I’m the one that got away, I don’t know what to say,” joked Smith, who went on to marry Miller in 2019.

The couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Harvey John Miller, in May 2021.

As for DiCaprio, he went on to date the world’s hottest models including Kelly Rohrbach, Nina Agdal and, more recently, Gigi Hadid.

His most recent significant relationship was with model and actress Camila Morrone, who he split from last year after four years of dating.
