All the clues Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have broken up
Reports are emerging Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are about to announce a divorce, and there’s a very telling sign it’s true.
The ultimate showbiz power couple are “effectively over”, according to a US report that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have split.
The reality TV queen, 40, and her rapper husband, 43, are reportedly set to announce their divorce after living separate lives for months.
That won’t come as a shock to fans who have pointed to a series of worrying signs throughout the past year.
We weigh up the evidence and ask if this modern fairytale has come to an unhappy ending.
KANYE’S PRESIDENTIAL BID
Kanye’s bid to oust Donald Trump as US President brought some of the couple’s most private issues into the spotlight.
It was reported that Kim was “not happy” about the rapper throwing his hat into the ring.
When Kanye announced his candidacy, she could only muster a Stars And Stripes flag emoji on social media by way of response.
By contrast, their daughter North and Kim’s own sister Kourtney supported his unlikely bid for high office by wearing “Vote Kanye” clobber.
Then came a now-infamous campaign speech at a rally in North Charleston, South Carolina. An emotional Kanye, wearing a bulletproof vest, revealed he and Kim had considered an abortion when she was pregnant with North, their first child. Crying, he said: “I almost killed my daughter.”
This deeply personal revelation did not go down well with the family, who were “shocked beyond words” according to gossip site TMZ.
On election day, Kanye proudly announced he had voted for the first time (for himself). Yet Kim tweeted a picture of Democratic candidate Joe Biden, now president-elect, with his running mate Kamala Harris after they emerged as the winners.
DIVORCE DISCUSSIONS
Hollywood Life reported last month that the stars were “struggling to stay together as a couple”.
However, the celeb site’s insider claimed Kim is unlikely to formalise the split.
It said: “It doesn’t seem like she’ll ever actually file for divorce, at least anytime soon.
“They really are living separate lives right now and have for a while.”
In July, a few days after the disastrous presidential rally, the rapper said in now-deleted tweets that he had been trying to “get divorced” for two years.
He also claimed Kim and her mum Kris Jenner – who he had appeared to liken to North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un by calling her Kris Jong-un – were trying to “lock him up”.

The Sun reported as far back as 2016 that Kim wanted to divorce Kanye “when the time is right”.
And a source told People magazine at the time that Kanye’s Twitter rants were causing “friction in the marriage”.
That same year, Kanye spent time in hospital for “exhaustion” while Kim was robbed at gunpoint in Paris.
ANTI-SOCIAL MEDIA
The last picture Kim posted of the couple was at the end of November: A romantic black-and-white shot of Kim draped across her husband’s knee to celebrate the tenth anniversary of his album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy – often cited as his best work.
She said he had struggled to write lyrics for his track Lost In The World before finding a poem he had written in Kim’s 30th birthday card, which she kept and posted.
But the words, “You are my angel, you are my devil, you are my heaven, you are my hell,” hinted even then at a rollercoaster relationship.
Last month Kim posted a cute snap of the clan in Lake Tahoe, captioned with “Tahoe w the fam”. Against the snowy backdrop were her sisters Kendall Jenner, Khloe, Kourtney, her brother-in-law Scott Disick, “momager” Kris Jenner and Kris’s boyfriend Corey Gamble. But no Kanye.
It was the same story as the festive holiday rolled around. Kim posted pictures of “Christmas at Kourtney’s” but there was no sign of her husband.
However, she did mark their sixth wedding anniversary in June with some throwback photos of their lavish wedding in Florence, Italy, along with more recent pictures, and wrote: “Six years down, forever to go. Until the end.”
On Kanye’s social media, the normally prolific contributor has kept an uncharacteristic silence since November’s US presidential election.
LIVING APART
Kim married Kanye, her third husband, in 2014.
They had been friends for a long time before they began dating in 2012.
That came while Kim was still legally married to former NBA basketball star Kris Humphries.
Kim filed for divorce after just 72 days of marriage to Kris.
Their split was formalised in 2013, following a protracted legal battle.
Now, after six years and four children together, Kim and Kanye are themselves living more than 1000km apart. She is looking after their kids in Los Angeles while Kanye has been holed up at their sprawling ranch in the mountains of Wyoming. They bought the 1200-hectare property in 2019 for more than $19 million.
A source told Hollywood Life: “Kanye is taking time and space to work on himself and is spending a lot of his time in Wyoming.
“It sounds like he has no plans to return to LA any time soon – at least, not full-time. But Kim is OK with that.”

LAST TIME SPOTTED TOGETHER
The last time the couple were spotted together was at Kim’s 40th birthday bash in October.
She flew 40 friends and family members to a private island near Tahiti.
That act of extravagance at the height of the pandemic drew criticism and derision in equal measure. It was branded “tone deaf” given the extent of the crisis and it didn’t help that Kim tweeted saying how “humbly reminded of how privileged my life is”.
At the lavish do, meanwhile, she praised Kanye’s thoughtful gift of conjuring her late father Robert in the form a hologram.
As part of his message, Kanye had the virtual patriarch – a lawyer who famously helped defend OJ Simpson against murder charges and who died in 2003 – congratulate his daughter on marrying “the most, most, most, most, most genius man in the whole world”.
Meanwhile, in August the globetrotting Kardashian-West clan jetted off to the Dominican Republic for what sources described as a “make-or-break” holiday.
That came a week after Kim flew to their Wyoming ranch for crisis talks with Kanye, when Kim was pictured in her car looking distressed.
She had previously posted a lengthy message online about the difficulties of living with someone who has bipolar disorder.
Referring to Kanye as her “brilliant yet complicated spouse”, Kim asked that “the media and public give us the compassion and empathy that is needed so that we can get through this”.
QUARANTINE HELL
Lockdown last spring forced the pair to stay together in their mansion in the Hidden Hills gated community of Los Angeles.
Like many couples trapped indoors with their nearest and dearest, the enforced companionship proved a strain. But unlike the rest of us, they had the luxury of living at opposite ends of their vast home.
Kim was reportedly annoyed that all the parenting duties – including homeschooling their oldest daughter North – had fallen to her, while Kanye got on with being “creative”.
They were said to be constantly “at each other’s throats”, while a source told The Sun at the time: “Kim is frustrated with Kanye and thinks he’s not pulling his weight in family responsibilities.
“They’ve been staying at opposite ends of the house to keep things civil.”
NO FIFTH BABY
Kim said on chat show The View in April that she had no plans to add to her brood with Kanye.
She told panellists there would be no more siblings for daughters North, 7, Chicago, who turns three this month, and sons Saint, 5, and Psalm, 19 months.
The decision came, she said, after having to juggle four kids in lockdown.
Kim added: “Let me say, being at home with four kids, if I ever for a minute thought I wanted another one, that’s out the door. It’s really tough.”
Months earlier, RadarOnline said Kanye was pushing Kim for more “blood heirs”.
An insider reckoned having a fifth child could heal their marriage, claiming of Kanye: “He says it’s no coincidence he and Kim got back on track after the last baby came into their lives.”
The showbiz site reported last January that Kanye was keen to go for a fifth baby with a surrogate, which is how his youngest two children came along after Kim had complications in her pregnancies.
An insider said: “Kanye’s pushing hard for this. He’s been very vocal about wanting to get things started right away.”
Kanye once told TV’s James Corden he wanted seven kids, saying: “The richest thing that you can have is as many children as possible.”
