Adele awkwardly hit on by Tom Hanks’ son Chet after controversial Instagram post

This is the celebrity photo that keeps on giving – Adele now has to contend with a very public pick-up attempt from an Oscar-winner’s son.

Adele’s latest internet-breaking Instagram post has led to advances from an unlikely admirer – Tom Hanks’ son, Chet.

Actor and sometime rapper Chet, 30, has an inexplicable fondness for speaking in a Jamaican patois, despite the fact his dad is Tom Hanks and not Bob Marley. So of course Adele – who courted controversy this week with her, ahem, literal tribute to the Notting Hill Carnival led by members of the British West Indian community – would catch his eye.

“PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ADELE HIT MY LINE ASAP !!!!!!!!!!!! I NEED TO TALK TO HER ABOUT SOMETHING,” Hanks captioned a video of him listening along to Adele’s hit Set Fire To the Rain.

“Adele, Adele, Adele! You know me say ah pree you from long time, but after me see yah picture wah deh, it sweet me. Me nah tell no lie my girl, hairstyle fit ya. Big up yourself and uh, hit me in my DMs,” Hanks – who is white – says in the video, adopting a Jamaican patois.

My face as I watched Chet Hanks make a public play for Adele while speaking like he’s in Cool Runnings:

It’s getting weird.

Hanks isn’t the only famous person to weigh in on Adele’s controversial photo this week. Supermodel Naomi Campbell and singer Alexandra Burke are among those who’ve spoken in defence of the star.

The superstar shocked fans by posting a photo of herself as she’d never been seen before: clad in a Jamaican flag bikini top, feathers adorning her shoulders, gold chains around her neck and wrists and with her hair curled into tight ‘Bantu’ knots often worn by women of African descent.

The look was a tribute to London’s iconic Notting Hill Carnival, a massive annual celebration led by members of the British West Indian community, which has been cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
