Heather Morris says Glee cast were ‘very scared’ to report Lea Michele’s behaviour

One of Lea Michele’s Glee co-stars has opened up about working with the embattled actress, following claims of on-set bullying.

It’s been almost a year since Lea Michele was brutally outed as an alleged “bully” by a cohort of her Glee castmates.

And the noise still hasn't died down, with Heather Morris, who played Brittany S. Pierce on the hit musical series, weighing in on Michele’s behaviour.

The 34-year-old US actress told Danny Pellegrino’sEverything Iconic podcast that cast members were “very scared” to report Michele’s behaviour during filming of the show, which ran from 2009 to 2015.

“We absolutely could have stepped up and gone to the Fox execs and said how we felt about the situation, and nobody really did,” Morris said.

“I think many people were very scared. I know, genuinely, I didn’t feel like it was my place.

“And I don’t know why, because I was a cast member just like everybody else, and we all deserve to feel comfortable on a set.

“It was something that was very hush-hush on set.”

Michele’s reputation took a battering in June last year after actress Samantha Ware – who played Jane Hayward in season 6 – claimed she would “never forget” the “traumatic microagressions” she claims to have received from the lead star.

A string of Glee cast members and other industry professionals who had worked with Michele followed, telling their own stories of her poor treatment.

Morris herself tweeted at the time that Michele, who played Rachel Berry, was “unpleasant to work with”.

She says she copped “shade” for not condemning Michele’s treatment further.

“People were like, ‘This is so f**king cryptic,’ like, ‘Why don’t you just go and say it?’” Morris told Pellegrino.

“I’m like, ‘Guys, she’s pregnant, and all this stuff is going around, and … it’s true’ — and I don’t know if maybe we were victims of bullying and that’s a typical victim thing to do is to blame yourself,” Morris said.

“But it also is very true, and the only person who was honest about it was Naya (Rivera).”

Fellow Glee star Rivera tragically died in a boat accident in California in July last year, and had revealed in her 2016 memoir that she and Michele weren’t “the best of friends”.

Morris claimed the cast each had moments where they grew close to Michele, before everything suddenly changed.

“And then we all weren’t as close with her,” Morris said.

“So there’s that human element to understanding who this person is, growing with that person, seeing her try to become better and taking care of herself after Cory (Monteith) passed. It was just the elephant in the room.”

After the accusations began pouring in, Michele, who gave birth to her first child in August, issued a public apology, admitting she “clearly acted in ways which hurt other people.”

“Whether it was my privileged position and perspective that caused me to be perceived as insensitive or inappropriate at times or whether it was just my immaturity and me just being unnecessarily difficult, I apologise for my behaviour and for any pain which I have caused,” she said in a lengthy Instagram post.

“We all can grow and change and I have definitely used these past several months to reflect on my own shortcomings.”
