Five reasons why Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O are still number one after so many years on FM radio
KYLE and Jackie O are the most popular FM breakfast show in Sydney and there are five main reasons behind their incredible success.
KYLE and Jackie O are still the most popular FM breakfast show in Sydney after they controversially walked out on 2Day FM last year, but is it that surprising?
The duo have been labelled the Pied Pipers of radio after they convinced their fans to follow them to their new station on Kiis FM where they now share the number one title with ARN stable mates Jonesy and Amanda (WSFM).
RATINGS: WHICH BREAKFAST SHOW IS NO. 1 IN YOUR CITY?
After this week's spectacular ratings results, ARN National Content Director Duncan Campbell said, "It's testament to both Kyle and Jackie O and Jonesy and Amanda's incredibly loyal and passionate fan base, and the hard work and the excellent production team who have worked for months behind the scenes, coming in from day one with the sole purpose of making great radio and executing our content strategy extremely well."
Kyle Sandilands and Jackie Henderson have been broadcasting together for more than 10 years, and you can't deny that they're very good at what they do.
Here are five reasons why they're still on top after so many years:
Chemistry: Kyle and Jackie O get on. You can tell that they're friends, because not only do they support each other on air, but they fight with one another as well. Some of their most compelling content is when they're going head to head with each other and they're both fired up. They also suit each other perfectly. Whereas Kyle is the shock jock who says outrageous things, Jackie O is the calming influence who pulls him into line and tells him when he's gone too far.
Guests: When they were on 2Day FM, their catchphrase was 'Breakfast with the stars'. For years they got the biggest international stars on their show, often for exclusive interviews. This has continued since they've moved to Kiis FM. Each day they tend to have three celebrities on their show and most of the time their quality stars. It's a testament to their producers who must work tirelessly to secure the massive interviews.
Relationship with guests: Because they've been around for so long, Kyle and Jackie O have spoken to many of the world's biggest stars at least once or twice before and they've built a rapport with them. Interviews on their show are different than on other shows, because you feel as if you're listening in on a conversation between friends rather than a straight up and down celebrity interview. Two examples are Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban who consider Sandilands a friend and are more willing to jump on the phone to his show rather than anyone else's.
Controversy: Kyle and Jackie O are masters of pushing the boundaries. They know how to make people talk with their zany stunts that manage to equally offend and entertain. Just yesterday they put a caller to air who complained about their risqué content, in particular when they sent out the show's intern to collect semen from a horse.
Love to hate: This is linked to the controversy they generate with their content. There's no denying that Kyle in particular has said some vile things on air in the past that have landed him in trouble with the radio watchdog and have disgusted people all over the country. People love to hate him. That's a fact. But some of those people still listen to his show daily, because they want to hear what he's going to do next so they can be outraged all over again.
