Felicity Huffman’s words of wisdom come back to haunt her
Just days before her shock arrest in a bribery scandal, actress Felicity Huffman was offering fans some rather unfortunate advice.
Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman’s recent advice to fans is coming back to bite her in the wake of a bribery scandal that could see her face five years in jail.
Huffman and Full House star Lori Loughlin have been charged along with 46 others in a massive crackdown on a widespread bribery scam involving some of the most elite colleges in the US.
Court records show Huffman, Loughlin and others, including CEOs, investors and even lawyers, allegedly paid substantial sums of money — in some cases as much as $US6 million ($A8.5 million) — to guarantee their children would be accepted into prestigious universities such as UCLA, Yale and Stanford.
The scandal has lit up social media — who among us woke up today expecting to read the headline “Felicity Huffman arrested”?
The actress and wife of William H. Macy is a frequent tweeter, using her social media to variously promote her line and offer fans words of self-help wisdom.
One such pronouncement, posted just four days ago, takes on a very different meaning today.

“Don’t just go through life, grow through life. What are you creating for yourself today?” Huffman asked her followers on March 8, next to a picture setting out her “rules of life”:
- there are none
- create your own
- live them.
Hear that, kids? There are no rules in life — and, presumedly, university admission processes!
Then there’s this loving tribute to her husband on March 1 — her “partner in crime”:
When youâve been married for 100 years itâs all a beautiful throwback. â¤ï¸

Another Huffman tweet, this one posted back in 2016 and asking her followers for their best back-to-school “hacks”, is gaining new attention in the wake of her arrest:
What are your best âhacksâ for the back-to-school season?

Huffman’s predicament reads like a late-season Desperate Housewives plot line — and celeb watchers are eating it up.

The good news is that when this story is adapted for HBO, Felicity Huffman can play herself

Huffman and her husband reportedly made a charitable contribution of $US15,000 ($A21,000) so their first daughter could receive false test results in a university entrance exam.
She declined the same service for her second daughter.
According to investigators, the universities were not aware of the fraudulent scheme. Only individuals pocketed the bribes.
