Elliot Page’s wife speaks out after transgender reveal: ‘Love you so much’
Actor Elliot Page’s dancer wife has described his coming out as transgender as “a gift” in an emotional post on social media.
Actor Elliot Page, formerly known as Ellen Page, has received a touching public show of support from his wife after he came out as transgender on Tuesday.
Professional dancer and choreographer Emma Portner reposted Page’s announcement on her Instagram, and said she is “so proud”.
“Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world,” Portner, 26, added in the caption. “I also ask for patience and privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much.”
Page, 33, responded to his wife’s support with two red heart emojis.
Page and Portner tied the knot in January 2018. In June 2019, the couple proudly showed their love for one another by posing topless together while kissing for a Pride Month photo shoot.
Many celebrities also voiced their support for Page over his coming out.
Actress Anna Kendrick wrote: “Elliot Page’s words here are so beautiful and so eloquent, and he is reminding me that we can all be brave and joyful, even when things are scary. And this year especially, that reminder is such a GIFT. Sending them love/praise/gratitude/well-wishes etc.”
Music duo Tegan and Sara re-shared the Juno star’s announcement on Twitter and added, “Profound love and admiration for you @TheElliotPage! Your strength, bravery and activism – not to mention all the art you contribute to this Earth – is truly special. Thank you for being so open about your journey and for fighting so hard to make the world a better place.”
James Gunn, who directed Page in the 2010 film Super, saw the star’s announcement and responded on Twitter, “Elliot, I love you, am proud of you, and admire you. Please keep being a beacon of courage, compassion, and strength for all of us.”
LGBTQ activist and pop star Miley Cyrus took to the comments section of The Umbrella Academy actor’s Instagram and declared, “Elliot rules!”
Anna Paquin showed her support for her longtime friend, writing, “Sending you ALL the love and support Elliot!”
Oscar-winner Patricia Arquette – whose transgender sister Alexis passed away in 2016 – wrote, “Sending you love and support!”
Actor Kumail Nanjiani had this to say: “I’ve been a fan of Elliot’s for a very long time and am excited to see him continue his fantastic work in the years to come.”
Page made his announcement on Tuesday, telling fans and followers that he felt “lucky” to be sharing the news.
“I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey,” he wrote. “I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self.”
