Comedian Tig Notaro says Louis C.K. needs to ’take care of’ his sexual misconduct rumours

COMEDIAN Tig Notaro has said that Louis C.K. needs to ‘take care’ of the sexual misconduct rumours that have followed him for two years.

COMEDIAN Tig Notaro really wants viewers to know that Louis C.K. had nothing to do with her Amazon show.

In an interview with The Daily Beast’s Matt Milstein, Notaro made that point on three separate occasions. Though One Mississippi may start with “Executive Producer Louis C.K..” this is Notaro’s show.

“He’s never been involved,” Notaro said in The Daily Beast’s interview. One Mississippi tells a fictionalised version of the comedian’s life. At its core, it’s a recreation of the devastating circumstances polished by humour that originally made the comedian such a force to be reckoned with. However, in light of rumours about Louis C.K.’s sexual misconduct and a conflict earlier this year, Notaro is distancing herself from the well-known comedian.

“His name is on it. But we are writing the show, the writers’ room,” she said. “And everyone that’s directly involved in the show works very hard. They are decent, talented human beings. And I feel lucky to be surrounded by them”.

Notaro disavowing her show from Louis C.K. is significant on several levels. After all, it was Louis C.K.’s praise for Notaro and offer to sell her set Live on his site that helped transform Notaro into a household name in the US. Add that to the fact that Louis C.K. has been highly supportive and vocal about the other two projects he’s involved in — Zach Galifianakis’ Baskets and Pamela Adlon’s Better Things — and this should give any fans of these comedians pause.

Notaro also addressed rumours of sexual misconduct connected to Louis C.K. and criticised the comedian for his lack of a response. “I think it’s important to take care of that, to handle that, because it’s serious to be harassed. It’s serious, it’s serious, it’s serious.”

Two years ago Gawker published an article titled “Which Beloved Comedian Likes to Force Female Comic to Watch Him Jerk Off?” Many believed the article was in reference to Louis C.K., and it’s caused a rift in the comedy world.

Many fans of the comedian, this writer and Milstein included, have wondered whether or not it’s OK to still support and like Louis C.K. in light of these rumours. On one hand, they’re just rumours. On the other, there was a point when the Bill Cosby allegations were just rumours.

Perhaps coincidentally, this new season of One Mississippi features a story arc where a character must figure out how to handle an older, male, and more powerful colleague masturbating in front of her in the workplace.

This isn’t the first time Notaro and Louis C.K. have butted heads lately. In April, the comedian accused Louis C.K. of plagiarising a short film she made for a Saturday Night Live sketch. Louis C.K. declined to comment for The Daily Beast’s story, but one thing is clear. Something is going on between Notaro and one of the most successful comedians in modern history.

Season 2 of One Mississippi premieres on Prime Video in the US on September 8.
