Comedian Chris Rock storms out of Aussie billionaire’s holiday party mid-performance
Chris Rock has stormed out of Australian billionaire Anthony Pratt’s holiday party in the middle of his stand-up set.
Chris Rock has reportedly stormed out of an Australian billionaire’s holiday party in the middle of his stand-up set in New York over the weekend.
The American comedian took to the stage at the 5-star Mandarin Oriental hotel in the Big Apple, where Aussie packaging billionaire Anthony Pratt was hosting a lavish soiree to mark his move from Melbourne to NYC after receiving his green card in October.
According to New York Post columnist Cindy Adams, Rock’s comedy set was not on the program with the comedian surprising the high-profile crowd, which included singer Keith Urban, actor George Hamilton, former Australian prime minister Tony Abbott, and former Victorian premier Daniel Andrews.
Adams reports that Rock was a hit for the brief moment he was onstage.
But Adams said that Rock abruptly ended his set just a few minutes in after appearing to spot something or someone in the audience.
“Whatever he saw — or thought he saw — upset him,” she wrote in her column. “Like he went momentarily ape and shouted something like he wasn’t supposed to be taped, videoed, reported or whatever else wasn’t supposed to happen.”
Adams said rock “didn’t complain, didn’t explain” his sudden exit, instead just forcefully “barrelling” his way through people to get to the exit.
“He kept b****ing loudly and, without a second’s hesitation, stormed out — never to return,” she recalled.
The crowd at the seated dinner were confused as to what just transpired, but Keith Urban saved the day by performing, belting out hit after hit for the next hour and a half.
Pratt is known for throwing lavish parties. The chairman of Australian-based packaging company Visy and US-based recycling company Pratt Industries has a staggering personal fortune of $23 billion, so his pockets run deep.
It’s unknown how much he paid Urban and Rock for their performances at his holiday bash, but back in February this year he flew US pop star Katy Perry to his historic Melbourne mansion Raheen to perform in front of 220 guests – and he paid her a cool $1.5 million.
