Comedian Alex ‘Shooter’ Williamson punched in the face at Rockhampton show

A popular Aussie comic brutally punched in the face by an angry heckler in the middle of a gig in “wild” regional Queensland has relived the incident.

An Aussie comedian has shrugged off the moment he was sucker punched in the face by a furious heckler in the middle of a live show in regional Queensland.

Alex ‘Shooter’ Williamson was performing at Allenstown Hotel in Rockhampton on Tuesday as part of his national tour Oi Mate when he encountered a persistent heckler.

When the man continued to interrupt the show and refused to leave, Williamson finally had enough and poured his beer on the man’s head, sparking a violent response – that was all caught on film.

The man is then hauled out of the venue, with Williamson screaming profanities at him as he goes.

Speaking to news.com.au today, the stand-up said he was glad he could continue his comedy tour “and chew my north Queensland steaks with my jaw still intact”.

“It’s getting a little bit sore as the days go on, but I was able to ice it with some peas between shows, because I had a show straight after.”

Williamson was only about two-thirds of the way through the show when he was hit, and then had to do a second show, in the same venue, later that night.

After he uploaded the video, other comedians commented they’d been through similar stuff in Rockhampton – specifically, in the same pub.

Williamson said he was expecting some heckling in regional Queensland, but wasn’t expecting a punch in the face.

“Some parts of the world have reps and stuff, I think it might speak volumes of the characters up here in (central) Queensland,” he said.

“There are certainly some cowboys up here … considering they’re getting that rowdy and drunk on a Tuesday, I still can’t believe I got punched on a Tuesday.

“Like don’t you have work in the morning? A Saturday I would understand … but a Tuesday?”

Williamson later revealed there had been only one security guard, a woman in her 50s, rostered to work the event.

Despite the lack of protection, Williamson said it wouldn’t stop him from going back.

“You know what they say, there’s one per cent of the world that are psychopaths,” he said.

Williamson said venues often left him with little protection but his shows were rarely as rowdy as the Rockhampton one.

“Sometimes, action just needs to be taken, it’s happened at shows where I’ve asked (security) to please remove the patron and they sort of look at me like stunned mullets,” he said.

“And I get it, he’s a big aggressive man and most of the time the security are usually theatre ushers or volunteers at school hall.”

“It should never get to that, I’m just thankful that my sound guys are big scary looking guys.”

The man is pushed out of the venue.

This isn’t the first time the Adelaide comedian has gone viral for his interactions with the audience.

In October last year, Williamson was involved in a confrontation with a heckler while doing a show at Adelaide’s Rhino Room saying he was “glad” their parents were dead.

“I’m glad they’re dead, so they didn’t get to see their son evolve into such a f****** useless sack of s***,” he shouts. “Guess what, my comedy’s above your f****** head, c***.”

Williamson commented on the incident today, admitting he wasn’t in a good place and took the incident too far.

The heckler had been yelling things when Williamson put his foot 0n the man’s table and knocked over his drink.

“The bloke wouldn’t get out … so I gave (his drink) a big nudge with my toe, it went all over the ground and stuff and then him and his mates started throwing glasses immediately,” he said.

“That was me probably going too far … I was having a hard time but I’m on meds now … but yeah that was a rough one for me.”

Despite the two viral incidents, Williamson insisted the majority of his shows go off without a hitch, although the comedian admits he does pour beers on people that refuse to be quiet.

“If you’re not gonna go then you get wet hair,” he said, referring to incidents in Edinburgh where hecklers refused to leave.

“I don’t set that precedent of heckling, it’s not one of those shows, my material is really structured, heckling does add a bit of life if they yell out … but the guy (who punched) was doing it a really basic, childish level.

“I used to be a high school teacher and if you misbehave, you get sent outside.

“If you’re gonna add something to the show good on you, but let me get on with the show.”

Williamson, who boasts more than 500,000 followers on Instagram and 970,000 followers on Tik Tok, said he’d “much rather film videos than get punched in the face”.

“(Violence) is an absolute outlier of my shows, this was only the second or third time,” he said.

“I went and did a 250 seater in Mackay the next day and everyone loved it, they all behaved so well.”

Explaining the altercation in a video the day after the show, Williamson said things escalated after the man refused to stop interrupting the show.

“He was f**king yelling out incessantly. For the first five times in a row I just took it and then I was like ‘No you are going to have to be quiet now, I am going to ask you to leave’,” Williamson said.

“I turned to the manager and said ‘You own this place don’t you? Where’s security? Let’s get this guy out’.”

Williamson said the manager didn’t listen to him and the heckler in the crowd yelled out again.

“And then he goes ‘Yeah that’s what your mum said’,” he said.

By this point, Williamson had had enough of the man’s heckling and poured his beer on his head.

The man then came up on the stage and Williamson thought he was going to pour his beer back on his head, which he said would be “only fair”, adding he offered the mic out to the man to say something.

“I figured if he poured his beer on my head, I was going to drink it as he poured it but he went the cheeky left the c**t and got me,” the comedian said, showing off his bruised face.

Williamson later revealed there had been only one security guard at the venue, but, due to his crowd of 105 people, he was supposed to have two.

“They did have one security guard in there, she was a 55-year-old woman, she wasn’t throwing him out,” he said.

Other comedians have begun to share their own horror stories about the pub.

“The same room @sungaattack had a glass thrown at him on stage. What’s doing QLD,” comedian Isaac Butterfield wrote, referring to an incident with Frenchy, another comedian.

“Hahahaha f*** bro Rockhampton again that place is wild ay. U took it well brother,” Frenchy wrote.

Williamson is performing his stand-up routine Oi Mate around Australia and will perform at Melbourne, Sydney and Perth’s comedy festivals later this year.
