Colin Fassnidge opens up about ‘tipsy’ 2023 Logies presentation
Colin Fassnidge has revealed what was really going on when he presented at the Logies this year, with viewers dubbing his performance “tipsy”.
Colin Fassnidge has opened up about his headline-making Logies presentation, which viewers described as “tipsy” back in July.
The My Kitchen Rules judge hit the stage at The Star in Sydney alongside fellow celeb chef Poh Ling Yeow to present the Outstanding News category about halfway through the lengthy Seven ceremony.
Despite the significance of the award, Fassnidge delivered a rather “merry” introduction, which became a scrutinised conversation point on Twitter.
Discussing the moment with Stellar, Fassnidge said he felt it was strange to have two chefs present a “serious” award.
“It’s a very serious award and I was like, ‘We’re not in the right lane here,’” he told the magazine, adding he’d had a little bit to drink by that point.
“I was sitting there until 9.45pm before I presented that award, and I wasn’t drinking water! I was trying to numb the pain.”
Fassnidge said even his two daughters switched off for his cameo, rolling their eyes and dubbing it “disgraceful”.
“If my dad was on TV when I was a kid, I would have told everyone,” Fassnidge said.
“But I could be flicking through the channels, and I pop up, and they’ll say, ‘Turn that off.’”
Elsewhere in the wide-ranging chat, Fassnidge revealed he suffered a cancer scare earlier this year after experiencing stomach pains while filming the latest season of MKR in New Zealand.
“My doctor is as blunt as a brick, and he said to me, ‘Oh, that could be bowel cancer.’ I was like, ‘What the f**k?’,” he said.
“He booked me in with a surgeon for a colonoscopy and a gastroscopy. It was a scary two weeks. I didn’t tell anyone, but I was absolutely petrified.
“I remember being wheeled in on the trolley and people were staying, ‘I love the show’ and I was like, ‘This is not the time!’”
Thankfully, he received the all-clear.
His own positive news, as well as the tragic death of his friend, MasterChef Australia judge Jock Zonfrillo, in April, gave Fassnidge a fresh perspective on life.
“The next day, I was putting up pictures of a sunrise [on Instagram] because I was out running going, how good is the world?
“I think it was because of the whole Jock thing, as well, because he was younger than me. It was a wake-up call.”
