Sydney Sweeney photos spark foul online backlash

Sydney Sweeney, “catfish”? Candid new paparazzi photos have sparked fierce debate online — with even the actress herself wading in.

Recently published paparazzi photos of Sydney Sweeney have sparked an online backlash so foul that even the actress herself has weighed in to hit back at her critics.

Late last week, paparazzi photos were published showing the actress relaxing poolside at her Florida home in a bikini.

Sweeney, 27, was very much off the clock and seemingly unaware she was even being photographed. Outlets like the Daily Mail and The Mirror ran dozens of photos taken by the snapper, many of them showing Sweeney in compromising positions, unhooking her bikini top and bending over in a thong bikini.

So far, so intrusive — but what happened next was even worse.

The photos then took on a new life on social media, where many men used them as “evidence” that Sweeney is not actually the stunning blonde bombshell she appears in movies or on the red carpet.

“All women are catfishes. The question is, to what degree,” one account declared alongside several photos of Sweeney, in a post that’s been viewed more than 34 million times.

“Nothing to see here other than an average chunky Yankee girl,” one troll on X declared.

“Too pale, and she needs to lose a few pounds around the middle,” said another.

Amid the cruel debate about her body, others came to Sweeney’s defence – questioning how many real-life women these so-called experts have ever encountered.

One person wrote that the men complaining about Sweeney’s looks “are pathologically incapable of connecting with women sexually because they are totally ignorant of the fact that women’s bodies are in fact human bodies and subject to the laws of physics/biology.”

“Clearly a lot of men do not know what human women look like when they are not solely dressing for publicly scrutinised consumption,” said another.

… and at home.

Another person said that the repeated suggestion from men online Sweeney was “mid” actually served as “an exemplary look into the porn addled brain of the average adult male.”

Sweeney herself even addressed the backlash in a stinging post on social media yesterday. She collated a selection of the many nasty comments about her appearance, which played before a video montage of her training hard in the gym for her latest movie role.

Sweeney has been undergoing an intense strength training regime to play real-life boxer Christy Martin in an as-yet-untitled biopic, a role that’s seen her undergo a near-unrecognisable makeover while filming.

“You’re such a badass,” her Anyone But You co-star Glen Powell commented under the post, while singer Kesha dubbed her a “strong baddie.”

“It’s always wild to see people publicly out-themselves as pieces of s**t with comments like that,” wrote fellow actress Lili Reinhart.

“You look incredible and your dedication to your project is very inspiring.”
